Way to be responsive to your students' needs by getting in the groove of executing small group instruction daily! After a few weeks of small group instruction, we need to assess if our students are responding positively to instruction by conducting Running Records. The Running Records kits have been provided to you all for easy access and continuous use. Here is the frequency for Running Records based on reading levels. This work is continuously done, however the l a s t Running Record results prior to October 3rd will need to be submitted.
Early Emergent Readers {Levels A/1 through C/3} -- every week
Emergent Readers {Levels D/6 through J/18} -- every 2 weeks
Early Fluent Readers {Levels M/28 through P/38} -- every month
Fluent Readers {Levels S/40 through Level Z/80} -- every quarter
Please steer away from shutting down small groups to complete Running Records.
Running Records can be done in between your two small groups. Simply hold one student back per small group session. It is wise to begin with your lowest leveled readers first because they will need the most amount of Running Records.
Responsive small groups are up and running at LPES! Here are a few Points to Ponder:
- The 1st Reading small group will be your Tier 3 students.
- Types of Small Groups, so far:
- Guided Reading: Levels A - M (10 minutes)
- Strategy Groups: Levels N - Z (10 minutes)
- When in doubt, pull a group. We are in the business of growing students at Liberty Point.
