Ebenezer Elementary School
November 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
During October, Ebenezer students and staff celebrated Red Ribbon Week. The week-long event included a variety of activities to promote the theme, βBe kind to your mind, live drug freeβ. Thank you to the Red Ribbon Committee for planning an exciting week of themed events for the students and staff. In recognition of Apple Crunch Day, all Ebenezer students received a bag of sliced apples! We also celebrated Fire Prevention Day. Glenn Lebanon and Weavertown Fire Companies came to Ebenezer, and showed off their trucks, held assemblies, and ate lunch with our students. Finally, our PTE provided a free book to every student in the school through our Read to Succeed event.
This month, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to a local Lebanon County food bank. The "FEED OUR FLOCK" program will take place from November 6th β 17th. Don't forget to send in items with your children and watch our turkeys grow! (See the suggested list of non-perishable foods listed in this newsΒletter). Parent/teacher conferences for parents/guardians of students in grades K through 5th will take place on Monday, November 20th (2PM-9PM) and Tuesday, November 21st (8AM-3PM). The online registration closes at 4 PM on November 6th. Your child's academic success is very important and we look forward to working together to achieve this goal.
There will be no book fair at Ebenezer this year. INSTEAD, the district will be holding a district-wide book fair at Cedar Crest Middle School during parent-teacher conferences. Please check out the book fair section below in the newsletter for more information or click here for our CLSD Book Fair Commercial
Thank you for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our office (717-272-1969) or myself (gfulkerson@clsd.k12.pa.us) if you have any questions, concerns, or praises.
Happy Thanksgiving! May you enjoy family, friends, and feasting.

A note from the healthcare provider should be submitted to the school office upon your childβs return to school. NEWS FROM THE ELEMENTARY DEAN OF STUDENTS
Over the last two months, students and staff at our elementary schools have been busy! Important routines have been established, a new reading program has been implemented, successful fundraising events have taken place, and spirit weeks and character trait assemblies are under way! While every elementary school has its own vibe, they all exhibit a unified excitement, diligence, and dedication toward learning!
To catch some of the highlights happening in our elementary schools, feel free to follow @mrsleboclsd on Instagram. If there are activities, special days, or events happening in/around your school, please let me know so I can capture the action!
Lastly, please review the important Elementary District-Provided Transportation Letter with your child(ren) that was emailed on October 25, to ensure our buses/vans are a safe method of transportation for our students. Remember, the use of district transportation is a privilege, not a right, and at any time students found to be in misconduct may be subject to school consequences without warning and have this privilege revoked.
Thanks for your cooperation and support!

SAMANTHA DUNDORE - Elementary General/Vocal Music
Hello!
The Holiday Concert featuring the chorus and show choir is coming up next month on Wednesday, December 13th at 7:00pm in the Ebenezer Cafetorium. If your child is in one or both of those groups, now is the time to start thinking about concert attire for the performances.
For performances, concert attire is black and white. Students are to wear some type of plain white shirt or blouse (Example: turtleneck or dress shirt. Please no T-shirts.), dark pants or a dark skirt/dress (preferably black, NO jeans), and nice dress shoes (NO sneakers, if possible). Due to walking/standing on risers and Show Choir dancing on the stage, I do not recommend high heels be worn. Girls who are in Show Choir may wear a dress, but MUST have black leggings on underneath as they will be moving around on stage.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. The students are working hard to put on a great concert for everyone!

Fall Into a Good Book
Reading News: A Fluency Guide for Parents
Adapted from J. Feldhaus, 2015
What is fluency?
Fluency is the ability to read with accuracy, speed, and appropriate expression. Fluent readers group words automatically and do not have to concentrate as much on decoding unknown words. When fluent readers read aloud, they sound natural and as if they are speaking in conversation. We want all readers to become fluent because fluent readers are able to comprehend what they are reading as they read and this is an incredibly important skill to develop!
How is fluency measured? We measure fluency through the use of timed readings in the classroom and on school-wide ACADIENCE progress monitoring assessments. During timed reading, students are assessed for accuracy and rate (number of words read per minute).
How can I help my child practice fluency?
You can help by offering to listen to your child read and encourage your child to focus on reading smooth and steady, not too fast or too slow. Model reading aloud to your child every day! Reading should sound natural, so discuss the tone of the reading passage. Is it funny, serious, scary, or mysterious? Pay attention to punctuation and discuss how these are signals for a rise and fall in our voice. Most of all, repeated readings of the same short passage are important for improved fluency.
Please see the Ebenezer Reading Intervention Team: Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Williams, or
Mrs. Wenrich if you have any questions about fluency. Happy Reading! J

Parent Pick Up Route
PERMANENT EVERYDAY PARENT PICK UP AT DISMISSAL TIME
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The form used to sign-up for the permanent daily parent pick-up list for students in PM Kindergarten and grades 1 though 5 is available from the school office. The form outlines the procedure and expectations. Families interested in this for their child(ren), should complete and return the form by email or sent to the school office.
Please note: Our school day has shifted 10 minutes. Our students' day is now 9:10 am β 3:40 pm. Parent pick will run from 3:40 to 4:00 pm
Reminders for families picking up their children at 3:40
- Please remember, we will not start parent pick up before 3:40pm. This is a big shift from our starting time last year of 3:25.
- Please DO NOT get out of your vehicle. If your son or daughter needs help buckling in please have them get in the vehicle and pull forward and around to the basketball hoops where you can safely exit your vehicle and provide the needed help. This will also allow us to move the line along as efficiently as possible.
- Please have your ID ready and the names of who you're picking up. It will take us some time to learn everyone's vehicle and children's' names.
- Again, our parent pick up will never start before 3:40.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great weekend,
