Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Lil Steamer Families --
It’s with a heavy heart that I write this week’s principal note.
Yesterday, #SteamerNation lost a valued community member as Larry Jones passed away.
I was fortunate to spend a lot of time over the years with Larry. He was friends with my older brothers and Steamer athletics always brought us together.
I was fortunate to share time in the press box with Larry during junior tackle and high school football games.
I was fortunate to work out with Larry at KT3; even though he was a lean machine at that time and just running circles around my workouts while jesting me as a “young’n”!
I was fortunate to enjoy his smile, laughter, and the good vibes he spread wherever he went.
I was fortunate to be able to call him a friend.
I know you’re looking down upon your family and friends with that same smile. I pray for your family and friends' healing as we miss you dearly.
Until we meet again, muchacho.

Encourage your children to talk to you and express their feelings. Here are some ways that you can help your child learn about and express their feelings:
Identify feelings in others-Provide lots of opportunities to identify feelings in others. You might ask your child to reflect on what someone else may be feeling. Cartoons or picture books are a great way to discuss feelings and help kids learn how to recognize other people’s feelings through facial expressions.
Be a role model-Kids learn about feelings and how to express them appropriately by watching others. Show your child how you’re feeling about different situations and how you deal with those feelings.
Encourage with praise-Praise your child when they talk about their feelings or express them in an appropriate way.
Listen to your child’s feelings-Stay present and resist the urge to make your child’s bad feelings go away. Support your child to identify and express their feelings so they are heard. When feelings are minimized, they will often be expressed in unhealthy ways.
Speech and Language News: Mrs. Beveroth
Read, Read, and Read Some More:
Reading is an essential part of speech and language development. It is never too early to start reading to your child. Reading with your child can help build foundational skills they will need to experience success in school. Ask them questions that go beyond yes/no answers such as Who? What? When? Where? Why?
Poppies in 2B
Students in 2B have been learning about veterans and Veterans Day. After listening to the story, The Poppy Lady, by , by Barbara E. Walsh, the students had a chance to make a poppy. The students colored coffee filters with markers and sprayed the filters with water. After the filters had dried, the students cut a petal shape into their filters and attached a button with a chenille stem. The stems were fastened to a green skewer, and leaves were added. The students will be making cards for veterans and attaching these special flowers. It was a fun and meaningful project for the kiddos.

Help support the 3D printing lab at FES
Last year, FES received a grant to purchase a 3D printer and the students loved learning how 3D printers work. Toward the end of last year, we had a parent graciously donated a second 3D printer. Since, we were able to get 5 more printers over the 2021 summer. Now, we have 7 3D printers! Mr. Dail along with Mr. Tenboer have been printing projects continuously since the start of the year. Many of the items that we have printed can be seen on the table in our morning announcements! However, printing all of these projects means we run out of materials once in awhile. If you have used or seen a 3D printer, the material is called filament. We mainly use PLA filament and the button below is a link to an Amazon wishlist full of filament. If you are willing to donate a roll, it is greatly appreciated, but please do not feel that you need to.
