Update on the Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Process
The State Board of Education's new Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) review and revision process for streamlining the social studies TEKS calls for multiple, separate work groups. Two social studies TEKS streamlining work groups have been convened to date. The drafts of the work groups have been posted on the Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Work Group Draftswebpage.
To access the work group drafts, visit: Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Work Group Drafts.
TEA is accepting feedback on the drafts prepared by the social studies TEKS streamlining work groups. Feedback will be accepted in response to work group drafts throughout the streamlining process. Comments on the drafts will help to inform future work groups’ recommendations. Additional information and instructions for submitting feedback are also available on the Social Studies TEKS Streamlining Work Groups Drafts webpage through the link provided above.
Please be sure to note that TEA continues to accept applications from individuals interested in serving on future social studies TEKS streamlining work groups. Grade levels and courses with the most need for additional applicants are elementary (kindergarten–grade 4) and two high school courses: U.S. Government and Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits. The application is available on the Social Studies TEKS Streamlining webpage.
To access the application, visit: Social Studies TEKS Streamlining.
