Ella Fitzgerald was born on April 25, 1917 in Newport News, Virginia. Following a troubled childhood, Ella Fitzgerald turned to singing and debuted at the Apollo Theater in 1934. Ella made history by winning 13 Grammys in total and selling more than 40 million albums. Ella died on June 15, 1996 in Beverly Hills, California.
