CDS - First Program
The Weekly Word from CDS FP - Apr 2 - Apr 13, 2018
Looking Back
- Spring is here and with it, warmer weather. As such, students have been playing outdoors upon arriving at school. A reminder that the playground will be supervised, and students are to arrive at school from 7:45-8:00am.
- Faculty In-service Day - students had Friday the 6th off while CDS staff were learning and reflecting about how to improve ourselves as educators, and improve collectively as a school, which is what we are always aiming to do!
- Battle of the Books - on the 7th, our Grade 4s and 5s applied their skills and knowledge at the competition at KIS. They have been reading novels (several!), learning, and practicing their collaboration among team members. Participating students should be proud of all the effort that they put into the last few months to prepare. Well done! And thank you to Mr. Baker, Ms. Choo, Ms. Menzel, Mr. Menzel, and Mr. Scoville for being role models, timers, judges and excellent coaches!

- Thanks to Mr. Burton (from high school) and the High School Yearbook Club for taking our school photos this year. This is the first time that we have done it like this. It is fantastic to see the effort and dedication that these students are putting into creating something for the school: making time available in their busy schedules, setting-up of a photography studio in high school, taking of the photos, editing of the photos, etc. - a huge job! Our very own FP Yearbook Club will then utilize these photos for the FP yearbook.
- Silent Art Auction - thank you to all who came out to view and bid on the artwork. The auction is complete, and those with winning bids will be contacted, this week. Thank you to all students who were brave and entered an art piece to be viewed by our community. Be proud!
- PK/K Field Trip - though the trip was delayed due to weather, it proved to be a good choice to wait as the weather was great on Thursday. Students toured several very interesting places in our community, Cheongna. While visiting the fire department, they even got to see the firefighters leave the station on a real call!
- Parent Teacher Conferences were held on Friday. I trust that meaningful conversations were held. As a result, both teacher and parents should have an improved understanding of the child's needs, strengths, and route to continued success in the future.
- Track and Field @ CI took place on Saturday, April 15. Mr. Tronsgard, Ms. Kim, and Mr. Hill accompanied the students while they did their best at events like javelin throw, high jump, and relay races - just to name a few. Despite the rain and cold, students had a great time both indoors and outdoors experiencing new athletic challenges. I was especially proud of how well our students were collaborating and bonding with students from international schools from all over Seoul and Incheon. Great sportsmanship!
