DON'T MISS VITAL BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO YOUR FAMILY!
Hello ORHS Families –
As school activities are finally returning to what feels like a “normal” year, we are trying to make sure that all families are receiving the full benefits available to them.
These benefits are funded through the School Nutrition Program and include:
- Funds for Title I programs and e-Rate (which support our technology funding).
- Assistance for qualifying parents for low internet rates for their child’s internet access at home.
- P-EBT cards issued by the federal government to the qualifying applications to identify students for these supplemental meal benefits. Qualified students can receive $7.00 or more per day per qualifying day.
- Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible for fee waivers for national tests such as ACT and SAT as well as reduced or waived fees when applying for colleges.
In order to identify families that are eligible for these benefits, the Free and Reduced Lunch Application must be completed and returned. Due to the availability of “free lunches” this year and last, the submission of the Free and Reduced Lunch Application forms has been minimal in comparison to years past. We ask that all families, if you have not done so already, complete the attached application and return before Wednesday, April 27.
The form can be picked up in any of the Oak Ridge Schools’ offices. One form will be sufficient for all your family but please be sure to list all of your students’ names on the form.
The form may be returned the following ways:
* Return to the school office
* Return to the Office of Pupil Services
* Emailed to lhenderson@ortn.edu
If you have questions, feel free to contact our office for assistance.
Thank you and we look forward to continuing to serve you and your family.

SENIOR PARENTS - WORK ETHIC DISTINCTION CERTIFICATES
What is the certificate for?
The Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education has approved the attainment of a Work Ethic Distinction, a distinction that has been available for seniors since 2020. What it entails is students providing a certificate to potential employers that they have been demonstrating desirable work skills.
How do I earn this certificate?
Students are to attain 20 points from the list shown below the image of the certificate here. When they provide evidence of success on these measures, they will be awarded a Work Ethic Distinction Certificate that will serve as part of the student’s job application portfolio.
Logos of employers who have already indicated they are willing to grant preference in interviewing a student who presents a Work Ethic Distinction Certificate are included on the face of the certificate. The list of employers who want to join this effort is growing. An ongoing list of such partner employers will be kept at our local chambers of commerce.
Please have students download the application here and complete the applications for this distinction and return them to Dr. Holly Cross, Supervisor of Career Readiness—ORHS CS244 before April 1, 2022 for recognition at graduation.

Thanks to you all, we are also already well on our way towards funding our much-needed new high jump pit. Right now, we only need $6,000 to hit our mark!
