A Day of Art
Treasures of The Greek And Roman world
After a long trip on the bus, the children of Mrs. Fulton's class finally arrived at the Getty Villa. They looked around and saw many interesting statues and art pieces from the ancient world. We interviewed student, Lucas Watkins, who shared some of his favorite pieces from the trip. Our new paper has capture them below.
Bust Of A Man
This is an unknown man that lived in Villa Dei Papri,Herculaneum
Head of a Young Woman
This sculpture used to belong to a fancy monument on a grave monument. This is an important sculpture because it shows the hairstyle fashion called the"melon coiffure." The "melon coiffure" was the preferred hairstyle for unmarried girls.
Gravestone of Mynnia
This is another sculpture of a grave, from Athens. This sculpture shows a girl clasping her mothers hand with her sister Artemisias kneeling below. The names of her sister and mother were believed to be added later.
Portrait of a Mummy Boy
This boy's hair is shaved on the top except for two little square pieces of hair. It's a unique hair cut.
Statue of Zeus
This statue of zeus shows him as a powerfully built bearded man. He used to hold a thunderbolt in his hand and a scepter in his other, both are symbols of authority. Zeus is the King of gods in roman mythology.
Bust of a Man Wearing a Turban
The owners of this statue do not know where exactly this statue is from, but the Turban indicates he is from North Africa or Asia.
Closing Thoughts
We interviewed student, Lucas Watkins, again, about his closing thoughts. He said "I had great day at the Getty Villa it was fun and interesting, I can't wait to learn more at school."
