Student Spotlight - More Sights and Scenes from PSMS
PSMS Athletes of the Week
Nick Long is a first year, 6th grade member of the track & field team. Nick is always seen encouraging his teammates, willing to go on a run with someone looking for a running partner and working hard to improve his own shot put throw. He is willing to assist in moving the equipment in and out of the gym without being asked. He is an all around helpful and friendly teammate who is great to have as a part of the track team. Alexa Tejeda has truly embraced tennis as a sport that she enjoys. She always has her head in the game and uses strategy to place her shots in order to win big points. She encourages her teammates when they do well, even when they are her opponents during practice. Thank you to G&G Silkscreen for sponsoring the PSMS Athletes of the Week program.
PSMS Musicians of the Month
Congratulations to the Musicians of the Month. From the chorus, 7th grader Luci Gizzi is always bright and cheerful and brings a great attitude to each class. She is enthusiastic and a leader amongst the Soprano section. From the band, Ashley Godfrey is a very musical clarinetist in the 6th grade Band. She plays her instrument extremely well, and does not give up when she tackles challenging new skills! She is a persistent member of the band who is a leader both during band and in the school. Her ability to balance music, her other classes and her athletics make her a well-rounded student! Last, but certainly not least, Abigail Brown is a violinist in the 7th grade orchestra. She recently auditioned for and earned a solo for one of the pieces on the concert. She regularly attends extra help, just to come play her instrument or learn a new one! She even performs regularly in our Coffee House events. Abigail sets the standard for what it means to be a comprehensive musician.

Spotlight on Statistics - Performing Arts at PSMS
Each week we will be sharing statistical questions about PSMS students that can be answered by analyzing the data displays provided (bar graphs, line graphs, dot plots, box-and whisker plots, etc.) Last week, we asked a series of questions - "What percent of 6th graders have read 1-10 books? What percent of 7th graders have read 1-10 books? Which percent is larger? The answers are:
6th graders - 57.5% read 1-10 books
7th graders - 43.4% read 1-10 books
More 6th graders have read 1-10 books than 7th graders.
This week we are asking about performing arts at PSMS. On a recent survey, 480 students indicated that they participate in one of more class or activity related to performing arts. What percent of students are in Band? Chorus? or Orchestra?
The information needed to answer those questions can be found in the following data set and will be revealed in next week’s newsletter.
