Reflecting on the past week...

This week has been very exciting (for being the last full week of the semester before exams!). You would think that all focus would be on preparing for exams... and that did happen, for sure... but there were also many instances of celebration! What a great way to remember that life is more than just a grade or a test, but truly the whole experience that high school brings to these young people.

The week started out beautifully as we celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The homily, the music, and every single individual in that gym grounded us and helped us remember what is truly important.

We also recognized our Illinois State Scholars (see picture on the side)

Wednesday evening Mr. Toledo and the music students put on an amazing concert that had the audience in the Christmas spirit.... as well as shedding a few tears of awe. Please enjoy some of the pictures below.

Thursday brought college signings for some of our baseball student athletes! Congratulations to Michael Aragon (Lakeland College), Justin Rohde (Rock Valley College) and Mason Hege (Carroll University) who signed their Letters of Intent this week!

The week ended with an exciting pep rally celebrating our fall state participants as well as recognizing all of the students involved in the winter activities. The MCs did a great job keeping the audience excited and the Marian Central Pep Band added to the spirit! Even Santa showed up! The rally ended with a special recognition of one of our own Marian staff members and his service to the United States as a US Marine. What a great way to help students and staff keep the spirit of Christmas and gratefulness in the forefront of our minds as we move into exam week!

What's coming up?

Welcome to Semester Exam week! I am sure that you are all deep into semester review with your students. Monday and Tuesday will be "business as usual" before we step into Wednesday through Friday and exams. Although the details are laid out on the procedure guidelines below, here are a couple of things to remember...

- Make sure all of your grades are as up to date as possible prior to Tuesday afternoon so students have a chance to see their updated grades going into exams.

- If you have students with ISPs who will be taking exams with Mr. Taylor, make sure he has a copy of the exam for each student prior to Wednesday!

- If you oversee a study hall, we are asking that you be in the cafeteria during that period in order to supervise any students who may be studying in there. This is most crucial during periods 1, 3, 4-6, & 8.

The exam schedule is as follows...

>> Wednesday, Dec. 14: Periods 1 & 2

>> Thursday, Dec. 19: Periods 3, 4-6, & 7

>> Friday, Dec. 20: Periods 8 & 9

The bell schedule is as follows...

Warning Bell: 8:00 a.m.

1st Exam Period: 8:05 - 9:25 a.m.

2nd Exam Period: 9:29 - 10:45 a.m.

3rd Exam Period (day 2 only): 10:49 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.

We will also be having our annual Staff Christmas Celebration (luncheon) on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 12:30 pm in the cafeteria. This is a wonderful time to get together and enjoy each other's company and celebrate the beautiful season of Christmas!

This will be the last Week at a Glance until Saturday, January 4, 2020... so I want to wish you all a blessed Christmas and the happiest of New Years. Please enjoy this time with your family and friends... relax and rejuvenate, and I hope we all come back refreshed and ready to serve our students in the New Year!

Semester 1 Exams are Coming!

Please take the time to review the 2019-20 Exam Procedures.

Some key points include the following...

- The grading portal will be closed to view by parents & students by Dec. 17 @ 3pm.

- When coming to your grade meeting make sure you have a copy of each course's grades (including semester, exam, and final grade), make sure the grades are "submitted" and if you have any outstanding exams you must put "I" in both the exam and final grade... providing either Guidance and/or the principal with the exam & key.

** Please note that you may be receiving an email as we approach exams indicating which students are NOT allowed to take exams until their bill is up to date. Unless you receive notification from the office that a student is released, if the student comes to your class for exams you must send them to the office.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Novy.
