THANKSGIVING MESSAGE
As we enter the 2018 holiday season, I would like to thank each and every member of the Family Partnership Charter School community for all the things that you do so freely and with such energy, enthusiasm, and indomitable spirit. These actions (big or small) make a positive difference in the lives of all of our students and is truly what makes FPCS such a wonderful place to work and go to school.
To the Anchorage School District: Thank you for all of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to support Family Partnership Charter School. Your embrace of our program has truly benefited our students and helped us feel like we matter.
To the FPCS Administrative & Business Office Staff: Thank you for all your hard work. You not only embody the "CAN DO" spirit but constantly go above and beyond to help provide the highest level of customer service with a smile.
To the FPCS Faculty: Thank you for all the time and effort you put into making our school so special. I know that change can be challenging and sometimes overwhelming. Thank you for showing courage, flexibility, and willingness to adjust your sails and to focus first on what is best for our school and our students.
To our FPCS Families: Thank you for choosing Family Partnership Charter School. I am so happy you are here and humbled by the trust you placed in us. Family Partnership realizes that we are not the only correspondence/charter school out there and are 100% committed to being there to support you in your homeschooling efforts.
Thank you for making your child's education a top priority and for encouraging them to do the best they can. Each time you sit down with your child to read a book, explore new topics, and do homework, you reinforce the importance of school and learning.
I am grateful be associated with families, staff, faculty at Family Partnership, and the Anchorage School District. Thank you for your hard work, support, and understanding. There is no place that I'd rather be.
In closing, I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
Sincerely,
Deanne Carroll

For families of 7th-12th grade students

MIddle school is not too early to start planning for your students' futures. Families of 7th-12th grade students come and attend a workshop by ACPE (Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education) to guide you and your students on how to use the AKCIS system. AKCIS is a huge database managed by ACPE and the Alaska Department of Labor. This system has tools and information that will help you and your students plan for their futures. Learn how to use the system to find possible career paths, locate tons of scholarship and apprenticeships, save your searches all in one place and more...
The workshop is being held at our FPCS building in the multipurpose room near the teacher's pods.
Please RVSP to your sponsor or roys_anna@asdk12.org so we know how many participants to plan for. We look forward to seeing you there!

Veterans Day: Percents & Fractions, Problem Solving (Misc.), Statistics & Data
In celebration of Veterans Day, here are a few problems based on data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau, 2017 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates.
In the United States in 2017, there were an estimated 251,047,650 adult civilians (persons 18 years of age and older not currently enlisted in the U.S. military). If 18,204,605 of those individuals were veterans, what percentage of the adult civilian population of the United States did veterans account for in 2017? Express your answer to the nearest hundredth.
The U.S. Census Bureau also reported that 8.1% of those veterans in the U.S. in 2017 were veterans of the Korean War and 3.4% were veterans of World War II. What is the absolute difference between the numbers of U.S. veterans of the Korean War and WWII that year? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.
If approximately 91.1% of the veterans in the United States in 2017 were men, how many women veterans were in the United States in 2017? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.
