Hawks Happenings Monthly Newsletter
February 2023 Edition
Principals Corner: February is here as we launch into second semester!
Hello Hawks families,
J Term is a wrap! Our second annual two week J Term is now over and we have officially launched into second semester. There were so many fantastic learning experiences to see and hear from students about from this past J Term. I thank all of our hard working teachers on creating these unique, hands-on, learning opportunities. Several students shared with me in classrooms and in passing, how much they enjoyed their J Term class and even a few saying that the experience opened up their eyes to possible careers they hadn't otherwise considered.
In February we have a few No School days to make sure is on your radar. February 20 is a No School Day for the Presidents Day holiday. February 27 is a No School day for students as teachers are in a full day or Professional Development and Records preparation for spring conferences.
In this edition of the Hawks Happenings monthly newsletter, we will share information with you all about upcoming events, spring conferences, sustained silent reading programs, and much more. If you have any questions on concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at 509-522-3312.
Thank you and Go Hawks!

Spring Conferences: Feb. 27 - March 2
We will send out more detailed information about signing up for timeslots with teachers within the next few weeks.
Similar to our fall conferences, Parent/Teacher conferences will be in person here in CPHS, but also a zoom option is available for families that request it. Spanish translation services is available for in-person conferences but we ask families to call the main office at 509-522-3312 if they would like to have a Spanish translator during their conference.
Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) Program
This semester during our Monday Hawk Times (when there is no CP Strong lesson in place) our entire school (students and adults alike) with pick up a book and read. Students can choose what they read so long as it is in print (no electronic readers).
We encourage our students to visit the library to pick out a book if they do not have to bring from home. Our library is even creating a way to incentivize checking out books from our library as you can see in the graphic below. All teachers will have some reading material in their classrooms for students who forget to bring their books, but encouraging your student to have a book in their backpacks would be great!
