This evening some of our students are participating in St. Baldricks, this is such a wonderful experience and I am so proud of them along with our students participating in penny wars and donating money. I wish you well and look forward to seeing your shiny heads on Monday morning.

This weekend we change our clocks, please remember to spring forward. This often causes some disruption in sleep patterns and in turn is an adjustment for a few days for all of us.

The 2023 Illinois Parent Survey is currently open for you to access and the student survey will be given this week to our Lincoln students during the school day. These surveys are very important as they provide a feedback loop that allows us to reflect on and refine our educational practices. Every year D303 participates in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey as a way to collect feedback from all of our stakeholders: students, teachers, staff, and parents/guardians. The Parent Survey, for parents, will be open from March 2, 2023, to March 10, 2023.

You and your child’s participation in the survey provides an opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of our school’s effectiveness. These responses will help us understand the conditions at Lincoln and guide our improvement efforts. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. • 1st Grade's Performance will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the gym

• Please have your students dress nicely in a combination of black, white, brown, gray, or green colors. If your child has clothing with an animal print on it that would also be appropriate to wear- we do have a zoo theme!

Dental Examination Requirements

Students in kindergarten, second, sixth and ninth grades must submit evidence of a dental examination by May 15th of that school year. Dental exams must be completed within 18 months prior to May 15th.

We are seeing an increase in the amount of gastrointestinal related illness in our school and within the D303 community. Common reported symptoms are: nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. Fever, headache, body aches and diarrhea may also be present. Symptoms usually develop 12 to 48 hours after being exposed to a gastrointestinal illness. Most people will see improvement within 1 to 3 days without treatment.

Gastrointestinal illness can be passed through the feces and vomit of infected persons. Students can become infected by person-to-person contact, eating contaminated food or water, by coming into contact with contaminated surfaces, or by tiny particles in vomit spread through the air that land on surfaces or enter a person’s mouth.

Proper hand hygiene practices are the best way to prevent the transmission of gastrointestinal illness. Hands should be washed with warm water and soap. Hands should be scrubbed for 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer can be used in addition to handwashing, but hand sanitizer should not be a substitute for handwashing.

Students with vomiting or diarrhea should not attend school while symptoms are present. D303 guidelines allow a student to return to school as long as there is no vomiting or diarrhea within a 24 hour period without using medication to control these symptoms. Students should also be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. A fever is a temperature of 100 F or greater .
