What is Rebels Read 30?
One of our SRMS Expectations is that our students read 30 minutes every day. Research tells us that a student that reads consistently, is a much more successful student. Reading is a practice that touches all content areas. A student that reads regularly, is a more capable student. If we don’t guide our students to read every day, it doesn’t happen, and ultimately, the challenge and deficit is passed on to educators.
Whether our students are reading at home for 30 minutes or it’s a combination of school and home, we want our students to read for 30 minutes a day, and with your help, we can help them create this transformative habit. Every minute counts. Every minute helps.
How can you help?
- Please use our “I’m Currently Reading” sign to share what you read throughout the school year by posting them outside your door or inside your classroom. Please let Mr. Alvarez know if you need one: logan.alvarez@nisd.net
- Encourage students to read when they have completed assignments
- Encourage interested students to check out resources that pertain to your content
- Encourage students to check out books online when they have completed their assignments. We deliver student orders the very same day.
