Newsletter - week 2, Term 1
East Gore School 10 February 2022
Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings
We have finished the first week of 2022 and what a great week we have had. It is great to see everyone back at school and enjoying their new classrooms and teachers. Programmes are underway and when I am visiting the rooms the students are working hard.
Lately we have had a few families asking for break times throughout the day. Here are the bell times:
8:55am - school starts
11:10 - 11:30am - morning tea
1:00 - 2:00pm - lunch time
3:00pm - end of school day
We also have short breaks throughout the day with classes having a healthy snack and exercise break around 10am.
Just a reminder that teachers are busy preparing for the day ahead in the mornings therefore students should not be arriving at school before 8:30am unless you have a prior arrangement with the school. If your child arrives prior to 8:30am, there is limited supervision for your child/ren.
We are noticing that the staggered end of day is not really working, therefore we are going to have all students leaving at 3pm. The junior students (Room Kauri, Totara and Puriri) will exit through the drop off zone gate and the senior students (Room Rata and Rimu) will exit through the main gate. Please try to social distance at this time.
If you have any thoughts, concerns, compliments or wonderings please make contact with the school about it. All staff are available for you to talk to about any of the above. Pop into their class in the morning or catch them at the gate after school, or if you would rather speak to me, I am at the gate every morning and afternoon or leave a message with the office and I will give you a call.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā (have a great weekend).
Could you please click this link https://forms.gle/m5wvFSL5XvP4KnRF8 and complete the form so we can check all our contact information.

We have made the decision to still hold our school athletics in Term 1 but a little differently. We are going to hold it over 3 sessions in March because we are not able to have High School students support the events. Unfortunately we will not be able to have parents join us during this time. We are planning on taking a lot of photos of the different events and live stream some of the activities so you can join us from where ever you are. More information will be available later in February about this.
From the Board of Trustees...
Later this year see's the tri annual Board of Trustees elections. If you are interested in becoming a Board member in the future and would like to see how the Board works and what is involved please feel free to contact Ken Willets our Board Chair to ask any questions you may have and to organise a visit to a Board meeting.
Our next meeting is 21st February 7pm - we would love to see you.
Touch is able to go ahead this term at the Red light Level. However, it is only students in year 5 and 6 that are able to play. Games are played on Thursday afternoons and the sub is $23.00. If your child is keen, please fill in the attached form and pay the sub to the office by Friday 11 February. If you have any questions let me know
We have had a couple of cases of school sores (impetigo) this week. If you notice anything suspicious on your child/ren please get them checked as they are highly contagious.
Headlice cases have popped up across the school this week. If you could all check your child/rens hair and treat if necessary. We appreciate you help with the control of this.
If your any student is unwell we will ring home to ask them to be picked up.
Ministry of Health guidelines say that students must stay away from school 48 hours after the last vomit or diarrhoea episode.
