Newsletter - week 2, Term 1

East Gore School 10 February 2022

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings

We have finished the first week of 2022 and what a great week we have had. It is great to see everyone back at school and enjoying their new classrooms and teachers. Programmes are underway and when I am visiting the rooms the students are working hard.

Lately we have had a few families asking for break times throughout the day. Here are the bell times:

8:55am - school starts

11:10 - 11:30am - morning tea

1:00 - 2:00pm - lunch time

3:00pm - end of school day

We also have short breaks throughout the day with classes having a healthy snack and exercise break around 10am.

Just a reminder that teachers are busy preparing for the day ahead in the mornings therefore students should not be arriving at school before 8:30am unless you have a prior arrangement with the school. If your child arrives prior to 8:30am, there is limited supervision for your child/ren.

We are noticing that the staggered end of day is not really working, therefore we are going to have all students leaving at 3pm. The junior students (Room Kauri, Totara and Puriri) will exit through the drop off zone gate and the senior students (Room Rata and Rimu) will exit through the main gate. Please try to social distance at this time.

If you have any thoughts, concerns, compliments or wonderings please make contact with the school about it. All staff are available for you to talk to about any of the above. Pop into their class in the morning or catch them at the gate after school, or if you would rather speak to me, I am at the gate every morning and afternoon or leave a message with the office and I will give you a call.

Kia pai tō rā whakatā (have a great weekend).

Principal

Contact Details

It is that time of the year again where we need to check we have the correct contact details for all students in the school. This is especially important if we were to get a Covid case within our school and need to make contact with families in a timely manner.

Could you please click this link https://forms.gle/m5wvFSL5XvP4KnRF8 and complete the form so we can check all our contact information.

Thanks

Debbie and Wendy

School Athletics

Our school athletics is going to have to be a little different this year to hold it under the red traffic light system. Eastern Zone Athletics and Southland Athletics which traditionally are held in Term 1 have been moved to Term 4, 2022.

We have made the decision to still hold our school athletics in Term 1 but a little differently. We are going to hold it over 3 sessions in March because we are not able to have High School students support the events. Unfortunately we will not be able to have parents join us during this time. We are planning on taking a lot of photos of the different events and live stream some of the activities so you can join us from where ever you are. More information will be available later in February about this.

From the Board of Trustees...

Welcome back to school - we are all looking forward to a year without to many disruptions! Welcome to Sarah Gilbert our new Deputy Principal and room Rimu teacher.

Later this year see's the tri annual Board of Trustees elections. If you are interested in becoming a Board member in the future and would like to see how the Board works and what is involved please feel free to contact Ken Willets our Board Chair to ask any questions you may have and to organise a visit to a Board meeting.

Our next meeting is 21st February 7pm - we would love to see you.
