Message from Special Education CAC Chair and Co-Chair
Dear Families,
Let's let love and kindness for Valentines Day also be a time for self-love and self-care. We are so busy and somehow we need to find the time to show ourselves kindness. Let's help one another by reminding each other to take some time to prioritize ourselves. We need to be our own best friend while we are distant from our circle of support. We don't hear it often enough, but your children and your friends know that YOU are an AMAZING and EXCEPTIONAL parent. You are IMPORTANT and above all you are LOVED.

The First Annual Iniguez Memorial Award
We would like to honor the legacy of Mr. Alfonso Iniguez, who was a committed school bus driver with RUSD Special Education by establishing a Memorial Award in his name. Families are asked to nominate a staff member from any department that has exemplified Mr. Iniguez' commitment and joy when working on behalf our special education students. We will be selecting an honoree in March. The honoree will receive the award at out Very Special Art Night event.
If you would like to nominate an RUSD staff member who has put our children first and foremost please email Elizabeth Cuevas at Elizabeth.cuevas@rowlandschools.org

Communication Supports for Covid Symptoms
Parent to Parent - What if I get sick? How will I take care of my child?
Continue with all the necessary safety protocols and develop a plan for care in case the need arises.
The following information is from the Mayoclinic.org
Parenting Children with Special Needs During Covid
- Identify potential alternative caregivers, in case you or your child's regular caregiver is sick. Focus on people who aren't at higher risk of becoming severely ill with COVID-19.
- Gather specific instructions for caregivers, including information on your child's medical conditions, doctors and therapists, daily schedules, and preferences.
- Check in with your child's doctor about plans for continued care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual visits (telemedicine), such as video calls, may be a good alternative to in-person visits.
- Stock up on at least one month of medication and medical supplies, if possible. Ask your child's doctor about larger supplies of prescription medications. Consider using drive-thru windows, curbside pickup, mail order or other delivery services.
- If your child continues to receive support services at home, talk to health care providers about ways to minimize risk of exposure.
- Visit websites of support groups and organizations you've typically relied on in the past. They may have specific information and resources for you and your family to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
- For specific health concerns, don't hesitate to call your child's doctor whenever you feel it's necessary.
