Upcoming Events
Thanksgiving Potluck Come, Gather in Community. Gather in Gratitude.
We will gather at 12:00 pm for drinks, snacks and set-up. We’ll eat at 1 pm. We will depart by 3:00 pm.
To make this a no-stress event, please bring your own place settings, flatware, and glasses for each person attending with you. Get as fancy or as simple as you would like. At the end of our time together, please take your dirty dishes and leftovers home with you. No fuss, no muss. The folks at each table get to clean up their area and volunteer for one other larger job-such as carrying out the garbage or wiping the counters. Many hands will make light work and enjoyment for all.
The church will provide turkey, ham, stuffing, tablecloths, and napkins.
We will also have a few self-directed activities for the kids.
Please Sign-up at Perfect Potluck:

**Allergy alert-please bring an ingredients list for your dish to display**
Is there anyone here that doesn’t LOVE a book fair? Is that even possible?
Pretend you are 8 years old again and shop our event! Books come from https://www.uuabookstore.org. We are pre-ordering the books we think you want but if there are ones you feel you MUST have, let me know and I’ll try my best.
We will have books for adults and kids, as well as all that cool UU merch (sadly no smelly pencils or cool teen posters like in the good old Scholastic days). You will also have an option to donate books to the LOUU library, and even dedicate them in celebration of your child’s birthday or any other event, or in honor of someone.
This event will be open to the public, whether they come to Selfies with Santa or not. It will run the same time as our bake sale and craft fair so you can literally get all your non-plastic holiday shopping done here.
If you want to help with this event, we are happy to have you.

Youth & Young Adults
Peer Pastoral Care Training
Are you a Middle/High school youth who would like to learn skills around how to be a better friend or to skill up to support peers at church events? The UUA now offers a UU Institute course on Peer Pastoral Care. The course includes active listening skills; cultural and neurodiversity considerations; and what to do in a crisis.
We need at least 3 youth to register to make this happen. Please email or text Chris if you are interested. When we get enough people, we will plan the time and date for the training. dlfd@liveoakuu.org
YUUP
The Young UU Project is now on Discord! A team of 3 youth and 2 adult moderators support our covenanting community. This server is for high school aged UU youth to practice faithful community building. We do this by connecting on common interests, celebrating our differences, making identity caucus space available, and sharing our creative pursuits.
Youth need parent/guardian permission to join - Your Religious Educator has access to the permission form. DM us or email youth@uua.org for help.
Young Adult Revival Network
Check out the October 23 weekly edition of The Sweet Potato, our roundup of online UU young adult ministries, online programs, learning opportunities, media, and more.

The Pamphlet Podcast: Uncovering Unitarian Universalism’s Hidden Histories
The Pamphlet Podcast, co-hosted by Rev. Dr. Susan Ritchie and Rev. Sean Neil-Barron in 2016-2017. Together they uncovered the hidden histories of Unitarian Universalism.
UUs were accused of being Communists or Pinkos in the 1950’s? *Yawn* What could be less surprising than that. But what if you found out that the head of the Unitarian Service Committee had been secretly passing on information to the KGB? What if you heard rumors that the editor of the main Unitarian magazine and the head of the UU youth movement (LRY) turned out to be a Soviet sympathizer who was using his position to advance a pro-Moscow line? John Pamphlet hosts Sean Neil-Barron and Susan Ritchie as they interview amateur UU historian Joshua Leach about the history of UUs and Communism. UUs were some of the first victims of the wave of paranoia and red baiting that swept across America during the early Cold War. To what extent were they merely innocent victims of this Red Scare. And to what extent were there, actually some, well, “Scary Reds” among the leadership at the time? The investigation and debate continue…

Spiritual Practice through Music
Music as Spiritual Practice: 3rd Principle
Let's explore our Principles through Music. Which pieces speak to you? What songs should we add? Just click on the graphic to be taken to our 2nd Principle YouTube Playlist. I will share new playlists for each of the Principles at the beginning of the month.
REFLECTION ON THE THIRD PRINCIPLE
“Spiritual growth isn’t about a vertical ascent to heaven but about growth in every dimension at once. It’s spirituality in 3-D. Growth in spirit doesn’t measure one’s proximity to a God above, but rather the spaciousness of one’s own soul—its volume, its capacity, its size.“We need souls that can take in the world in all its complexity and diversity, yet still maintain our integrity. And we need souls that can love and be in relationship with all of this complexity. Instead of fight or flight, we need a spiritual posture of embrace.”—Rev. Rob Hardies, All Souls Church Unitarian, Washington, DC (read more from Rob in The Seven Principles in Word and Worship, ed. Ellen Brandenburg.
