Great Happenings at POBMS
ENL Department Hosts Celebration of Diversity
Exploring Diversity in POB Schools
English language learners and their families recently showcased their diverse cultures and heritage with the POB community. In their ENL classes, students prepared research posters and presentations on Google Slides and Google Sites to teach visitors about their cultures.
Exploring Diversity in POB Schools
English language learners at POBMS translated words of a popular song from their native country into English.
Beautifying POBMS
After our celebration of Kindness Month, students were challenged to "sign" our kindness mural by painting their hand a different color and adding their signature to a kindness board, to be displayed later in the year in our building. As part of the project, student volunteers in 8th grade art added a replica of the famous painting by Keith Haring, pop artist. Take a look at the amazing student work and team effort!
As you stroll the halls of POBMS, take a look at the updated and creative bulletin boards that brighten our halls.
Making Math Fun
Equations Jumble
In order to review for their 6th grade math quarterly exam, students in AIS math spent some time playing an equations jumble review game. The collaboration that they demonstrated allowed them to verbalize their mathematical reasoning.
Individualized Attention to Struggling Students
Three stations, three goals. As preparation for their quarterly exam, students focused on strengthening their math skills in three stations: an equations game, IXL feedback, and targeted support to review the area of polygons.
Felicitacions!
Bravo!
Congratulations to our French students who participated, and won, in the AATF Poetry Contest earlier last month.
Sixth Graders Compete at Annual Greek Olympics
Sportsmanship, Athleticism, Creativity, and Strategy on Display!
As tradition has it, sixth grade students competed in the annual Greek Olympics: Sparta v Athens v Corinth v Megara v Argos! During their social studies classes, students spent time learning about Greek philosophy, architecture, art, government, politics, and other interesting aspects of Greek history and culture. The unit culminated in a display of academic and physical prowess in the Olympics. A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the sixth grade teachers for their continued dedication of and planning for this memorable event.
