Nazareth Catholic Community
September 4, 2018 - 22nd Sunday of Ordianry Time
I was very glad to be back at our 7:00PM Mass last Sunday night – I truly miss our liturgies during the summer months. If you are new to our Catholic Community - WELCOME! I pray that our campus parish can be a spiritual home for you during your time at Nazareth. I very much look forward to meeting you. For those of you returning, WELCOME BACK! Please know you were missed!
As we begin this new semester, now is the perfect time to take some steps that will help you later when the stress and workload of the semester piles up. Having regularly scheduled times throughout your week designated for prayer can help bring calm and balance during times of stress and busyness. Consider making our Sunday night 7:00PM Mass and our 12:30PM Mass on Wednesdays part of your weekly routine. Add these Mass times to your phone/computer/paper calendars to help you remember!
As a Eucharistic people, our celebration of the Mass provides us the spiritual nourishment that will carry us through the week! Take time to step out of the busyness of the semester, become more centered, reconnect with God and step back into the semester more focused. You will be glad you did! See you at Mass!
Pax et Bonum,
~ Jamie

Dinner & Discernment!
We are offering you a “hidden treasure” and a meal to boot, in a new program called: Dinner & Discernment!
The word discernment comes from the Latin word discernere- to sift or separate. In today’s terms it basically means: the ability to see and understand people, things, or situations clearly and intelligently- to help you make wise life choices with wisdom and insight.
In spiritual terms: Discernment is rooted in the understanding that God is always at work in our lives-inviting, directing, guiding and drawing us into the fullness of life. Discernment seeks to discover God's presence in the ordinary events of our lives and to help us follow the direction and guidance God gives us through grace.
Perhaps you would like to learn and grow in making the skill of discernment apart of your life… We are offering you the opportunity to come for a simple dinner and conversation on discernment on Thursdays once a month from 7pm, to 8pm. This is followed by Eucharistic Adoration & Compline in the Linehan Chapel. These two rich traditions of our Church help settle the mind and heart and serve as a peaceful connection between God, the world and ourselves.
The first Dinner & Discernment is Thursday, September 6, 2017 at 7pm in GAC 151. RSVP Below!
Hope you can join us!

Our Ancestors Would Be Incredulous:
Jews and Christians in Our Time
September 21, 2018 ~ 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Linehan Chapel, Golisano Academic Center »
A pioneer in the field of Jewish/Christian relations, Mary C. Boys, S.N.J.M., critically examines the historical realities and theological beliefs that have shaped Jewish-Christian relations. Primed by Vatican II, she applies historical biblical scholarship to the field of religious education to produce groundbreaking insights into Christian-Jewish learning and dialogue. At the heart of these insights is an unshakeable commitment to "learning in the presence of the other."
Boys's most recent publications engage with clarity and candor what it means for Christians to learn in the presence of Jews and Judaism today: Seeing Judaism Anew: Christianity's Sacred Obligation (2005); Christians and Jews in Dialogue: Learning in the Presence of the Other (2008), co-authored with Sara S. Lee; and Redeeming Our Sacred Story: The Death of Jesus and Relations between Jews and Christians (2014). She is currently the vice president of academic affairs and dean as well as the Skinner and McAlpin Professor of Practical Theology at Union Theological Seminary, New York City, and an adjunct faculty member of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
