8th Grade Students and Parents:
The Super Art Trip is coming up! The Super Art Trip is an overnight trip to Minneapolis on April 5-6, and is for any serious artist in 8th grade. On the trip they will visit multiple art museums and learn about new arts and cultures. This amazing opportunity is open to ANY 8th grade student, but you must apply. Applications are available outside of the art room and are due to Ms. Christianson no later than Monday, February 26. Students must answer the application questions typed on a separate piece of paper and make an art project that incorporates and presents their answers and desire to attend.
Please contact Ms. Christianson with any questions or clarifications, kchristianson@mhlt.org.

Firebird Skiiers Compete at State
Casey V. took 3rd place in the middle school boys' freestyle race. Sylvia M. placed 3rd, Grace K. placed 8th, Stella M. placed 14th, and Seda R. placed 17th. There were 68 girls and over 16 teams competing over two days in both classic and freestyle skiing. Way to go, Firebirds!
Counseling Corner
When you’ve just been the target of a zinger from your child, it can sting. These may be the hardest, but most important times to take a breath, smile and resist the urge to launch a zinger back. Listen to your teen’s thoughts and feelings to help shape your changing relationship with him or her. Think about what may be the underlying message your child is trying to tell you but can’t say. (“I’m tired…I’m embarrassed…I’d rather be with my friends right now…”) Responding in a caring way back to your child opens the lines of communication.
Be an eParent®! Text your child a message to share your appreciation for time spent together. Leave your child a voice mail saying you understand that she gets tired and frustrated and let her know you are on her side and ready to listen when she is ready to talk.
