NEWS FROM THE NEST
What's Happening at Rees?
Hello Rees Parents,
We have had an amazing year so far, and I want to share with you some of the wonderful things happening at Rees. First of all, we have the best students and staff at Rees. I love to watch our students SOAR each and every day. They try so hard to be kind and do their best in the classroom. Our teachers and staff work so hard to help our students achieve at the highest level possible. Here are a few things happening at Rees:
Teachers implementing new Language Arts Program: Nebo School District is currently adopting a new Language Arts Program and Rees is one of six schools piloting a program called CKLA or Core Knowledge Language Arts. CKLA is a comprehensive program for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I have been impressed with our students foundational skills being developed in younger grades and the rich vocabulary students are exposed to. I want to give a huge shout out to our teachers and the work they have done to implement a new program this year.
Acadience Testing Coming Up: Our MOY (Middle of Year) testing will begin on December 1st. We hope to see lots of progress from our Eagles by SEP night on December 12th. Let's Aim High and Achieve!
Lunch Room Contest: Students are participating in a grade level contest to see who can keep their tables the cleanest and who can follow the rules at a higher level. This is a way we are Aiming High to Achieve during lunch. Grade levels work together to earn an Eagle for the day. First grade level to 5 Eagles will win an activity put on by Mr. Gull, Mr. Cook, and Mrs. Coley. We have noticed students taking more responsibility and being more respectful. We hope these actions can become more of a habit.
Rees Choir Concert on December 6th: We invite you all to attend The Choir on Rees Avenue concert on December 6th at 6:00. I am so impressed with our students in the choir. We have over 90 students in the choir and they are terrific! Thank you to choir director and Rees parent Michelle White and her helpers for the job they do every week to teach and prepare our students.
SEP Conferences December 12th: We look forward to seeing everyone for parent-teacher conferences. This is a great time to discuss celebrations and other needs before the end of term 2.
Reading Carnival December 20th: Students will have a fun time celebrating their reading for the year up to this point at the Reading Carnival. Students earn tickets to spend at the carnival by how much reading they do each month. Students should read 20 minutes each day to earn the max amount of tickets.
Sing Around the Tree: We will have three Sing Around the Tree assemblies for students during the month of December. We will have one Sing Around the Tree for parents and family on December 21st. This is the tentative schedule below. This will allow time for transition and visitors to exit.
