Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
Thanks to the people that attended our last Coffee with the Principals. It was so nice to connect in person over a hot cup of coffee! We look forward to having a few more of these opportunities going forward.
During our daily announcements, we have been practicing common sayings in French and Arabic. If you do not speak these languages at home, we encourage you to practice these phrases with your children.
French
Thank you - Merci
Hello - Bonjour
Goodbye - Au revoir
Arabic
Hello - Marhaban
I want to wish everyone in our Loring community a Happy New Year! I look forward to seeing everyone back in 2023. Friendly reminder, winter break is December 24-January 2.
I would also like to say thank you to all of the dedicated Loring staff members who work hard every day to support your children. They have had to deal with many challenges over the past two years and I am incredibly grateful for all that they do in our Pawsome community.
Here is a picture of the wonderful bulletin board created by our two ELD teachers, Ms. Eileen Hanson and Ms. Melissa Nash. This visual shows the different countries our students in ELD program have connections to. Our PTO has also purchased flags from the different counties of our Loring community and we are working to get these displayed in our cafeteria as soon as possible.
Inclusive Schools Week
Inclusive Schools Week is an annual event sponsored by the Inclusive Schools Network. Celebrated during the first week in December, Inclusive Schools Week was created to commemorate the progress that schools have made in providing quality education to an increasingly diverse student population including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economics status, cultural heritage language preference, and other factors. Inclusive Schools Week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what else needs to be done to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children.
At Loring, we have been talking about what it means to be inclusive. We are planning to extend our discussions and learning into the month of January.
Here is a website and some recorded read alouds by our one and only Mr. Gaita that can help expand learning at home.

Talks about how were are all different and how important it is to include one another.
A duck is feeling different because of his size. He is able to save the day and the other ducks learn to accept his difference.
Leo wants to get his light to light up. He has trouble doing it. He learns that with practice and patience he can achieve anything.
The Missing Piece and the Big O
A missing piece is trying to find a place where it belongs.
A duckling named Five is born with a rubber band leg. He learns to accept his difference and saves the day
A little pug named Alfred is lonely and wants a friend. But some of the other pets at the house do not want to hang out with him, A new dog has moved in and from behind the fence, Alfred does not tell the truth about what kind of do he is. He learns that telling the truth and listening to friends are very important.

Wacky Wednesday
Wednesday will be Wacky Wednesday! This could be wacky hair, silly socks, inside-out shirts...use your imagination! Mr. Gaita and Mrs. Harvey will talk more about this on the daily announcements on Monday!
Are you ready for outdoor recess?
If you need help getting the appropriate outdoor recess gear for your child, please reach out to our guidance counselor, Karen Blumberg or our school socialworker, Jen Vlacovsky.

Loring Core Values
At Loring School, we are PAWSOME because we show our Core Values! These values are part of everyday life at Loring and reinforced in the classroom, at recess, and all around our school.
Students are taught the meaning of each word and how they make us better students and citizens.
Respect ~ Responsibility ~ Caring ~ Best Effort
The Loring Pledge
The Loring Pledge is said every morning during our daily announcements. Loring students embody our pledge and we hope this stays with them not only when they are at school but home as well.
