Eagle Flyer
A newsletter for Walnut Hills High School
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
October 7, 2022
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families:
Good morning! We are sending out the Eagle Flyer a little earlier than usual today so that families can complete information for our Picture Retake day on Monday. We have shared this info on Schoology, but the deadline is today.
We had a wonderful celebration last weekend of the school’s 125 (+2) year anniversary. The festivities featured a tremendous amount of talent from current students and alumni. Special thanks go to all of those students who participated as performers and Student Ambassadors. And many kudos go to our Executive Director of the Alumni Foundation Deborah Heldman and her team. The weekend would not be possible without their remarkable commitment to Walnut Hills High School.
Sincerely,
John Chambers

Walnut Hills High School is an Amazing Community of Readers!
In the first month of school our Eagles checked out 2, 848 books-- and 1,475 were digital books on Sora! Not only were more than half of our checkouts digital, but this is a new record of digital checkouts by our students. The closest we have ever come to circulating this many digital books was 921 in November of 2021.
In 2020-2021, the Parent Board generously helped the library to acquire a subscription to Sora to keep kids reading during remote instruction, and we have been able to sustain that subscription. Our students have clearly adapted to this reading platform which opens a breadth of titles to our students and helps our Eagles keep reading. It's easy to leave a book behind, but very few of us leave our phones behind. Sora allows students to accomplish reading goals on the bus ride home, during the wait in the doctor's office, in the moments before practice starts... and more. If you're not familiar with Sora, ask your student!

Walnut Campus Traffic
Blair Circle Morning Traffic
We cannot thank you enough for helping to make the morning arrival flow smoothly! As a reminder, vehicles utilizing the Blair Circle drop-off for 7:30 AM morning arrival please be advised that when you enter Blair Circle, you continue to move forward around the circle until the car in front of you has stopped. Once your vehicle is in the circle area and all cars in front of you have stopped, please have your rider(s) begin to unload. We ask that your students be ready to exit the vehicle in a timely manner as a courtesy to those in the traffic line. Please do not drop off your students before entering the Blair Circle or near the Arts & Science building doors. We appreciate your continued cooperation in making sure the flow of traffic is consistent, efficient, and safe for our families and students.
Blair Circle Afternoon Traffic
We thank you in making the dismissal process safe and efficient for our families. As a remainder, for families that are using Blair Circle to pick up your student(s) at 3:00 PM dismissal. Please be advised that you need to fully pull your vehicle into the circle area and continue moving forward around the circle until all traffic ahead of you has stopped. Keep your vehicle close to the sidewalk curb. Once you have your student(s), you may safely proceed out of the circle area and out onto Blair Avenue. No traffic from Blair Circle will be entering the Gilbert Avenue/Jr High Gymnasium traffic circle. The visitor parking area of Blair is off limits for pickup traffic in the afternoon. Thank you again for your help!
3:00 PM Dismissal Policy
Parents, our aim is to have our students off campus by 3:30 PM each school day. Students who utilize Yellow Bus service or METRO, need to report to their bus stop directly after the 3:00 PM dismissal. Any students who are not involved in an after-school activity or Help Night should be picked up no later than 3:30 pm. Students need to be picked up immediately after their activity or Help Night concludes. In the current state, we as a building are not equipped to offer supervision beyond 3:30 PM. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
