News for the Week of August 16th - 23rd

To the Coyote Creek Community:

As I write my first Thursday communication with you, two words come to mind: gratitude and normalcy.

Gratitude: I have so much to be thankful for. First, I am very thankful that I was selected to work alongside amazing educators and a welcoming community as your principal. Our current situation is proving to make building relationships a little more challenging than expected but I vow to continue to find new ways to meet you all. I am thankful for the ability to bring kids into our building starting next week. We know how to teach kids and help them learn and grow each day. I appreciate the warm welcome that I have received from both staff and the community. I have gratitude for my family and how much they have supported me and helped me as I started this new endeavor. My husband, Brian is a math teacher and coach at Rock Canyon where my son is a sophomore. We love to watch sports and be outside hiking and skiing. I have three wonderful step-daughters who are growing up and figuring out adulthood. My parents are also very involved in my life and are very helpful. You may even see them around! When we get back to normal of course!

Normalcy: A word that I wish I appreciated more when I had it. I understand that not having school back to normal this fall is not ideal. Our goal is to get all of our students back to school in a safe manner. Our teachers are working hard to figure out ways to make learning as normal as possible in their classrooms. As a staff, we are working on ways to make school feel as normal as possible for our students. Unfortunately, I think we have a new normal that we are all going to have to learn to embrace. I want you to know that as your leader I will always put kids first and we will find ways to utilize their strengths. I value teamwork and collaboration. Those are my normal values and I will continue to live by those.

I look forward to building a "normal" relationship with you all and am so grateful to be a part of this community!

      • Friday, August 21st, we invite those students who chose to do complete e-learning to come to school to check out a device if necessary between 9-11am

  • Monday, August 24th: First day of in-person learning Cohort A - Picture day for Cohort A

  • Tuesday, August 25th: First day of in-person learning Cohort B - (Picture day for Cohort B will be Sept. 3rd)

    • Kindergarten students have a different schedule.


    Orientation Week: Orientation day is meant to “orient” your child to our new normal. Students will be given ample time to connect with the classroom teacher and learn new procedures and structures that will keep our students and staff safe. We will also take some time to find our academic starting points. Important points to know:


    • Students must come to orientation day with a face covering.

    • Please have your child bring a filled water bottle

    • Water filling stations will be available

    • All drinking fountains will be shut off

    • Please have your child bring in their school supplies on their orientation day.

    • Hot lunch will be available if needed


    • PICK UP AND DROP OFF

      All three doors will open at 8:30 AM. Please encourage your child to go into the closest door and head straight to their classrooms. We are implementing one-way hallways so students will come in the outside door and go to their right. Kindergarten will continue to line up out front entrance on the spaces marked on the ground and the teachers will meet you outside to walk you in. The playground will not be available before or after school.

      After school classes will go out different doors. Kindergarten will go out the front door 5 minutes early (3:25 PM). 5th and 6th grade will go out the front doors, 3rd and 4th grade will go out the back doors and 1st and 2nd grade will go out the doors by the garden. Please remind your children to find a good meet up place after school.

      THE CLASSROOM

      Teachers have worked hard to configure their rooms to help with appropriate spacing. We are asking students to put on hand sanitizer when they go to specials and leave specials. Students will be required to wear a mask while in the building. Teachers are working on finding ways to give kids a "mask break" (read aloud outside, lessons outside, etc). Students will not be required to wear their masks during recess or while eating at lunch.

      We are working on getting our technology in working order so that each child will have their own device. If you haven't returned a device from last year, please do so as soon as possible. If you would like your child to use their own device from home, please feel free to send one in with them.


News from Natalie Smith District School Nurse - Medication Drop off

I hope this letter finds you all happy and healthy and ready to start a great year of school!

Due to current protocols during this pandemic, we will be unable to allow parents into the

building. If your student will have medications to be given at school, we are arranging a

medication drop off in which you can handoff any medicine with physician order for when your child is in school. Please look for the medication drop off table just inside the front doors of the school. We will be there from 8:30 am-9:00 am Monday 8/17-Thursday 8/20.

Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. If you can’t make any of these times, please call the front office at 303-387-6175 to schedule an appointment with the Health Assistant for drop off. Please place the medication and a new physician order form in a Gallon size Ziploc bag labeled with your student’s name and birthdate. Please ensure that the physician order has your student’s name, DOB, physician name and a signature, name of the medication, dose in milligrams, route, and time that it is to be given. Please make sure the medication you drop off is the same medication listed in the order form (for example same concentration, same dosage as ordered)Last, please make sure to sign the bottom of the form which is a release that you are giving us permission to administer the medication while in school. Back to School Night

Back to School Night will be hosted live on Wednesday, August 26th. Your teacher will send you a google hangout link to join their session starting at 6:30 PM. But don't worry if you can't join the virtual session at that time (or have multiple students). The teachers will record their presentation and then post it to their website for you to review later.

How can you help?

We are receiving lots of emails asking how to help us launch the school year safely and what type of materieals we need.

Here are some materials you can provide if you are able and can find them:


  • Boxes of Kleenex

  • Technology Wipes (wipes with 70% or more alcohol)

  • Clorox Wipes

    • New information: If students bring in their own Clorox wipes, the container will stay at their desk and they can use those wipes to wipe off their own area or items used. Wipes may not be shared with other students.

ART News from Ms. Montano

Hello Parents & Students! My name is Ms. Dianna Montano. I am the new art teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.


I am so excited to be part of the Coyote Creek community. Despite our unique challenges for this school year I want my art room to be a place where all my students can ACHIEVE. I want each kid to be INSPIRED this year and walk away from my classroom with a positive art experience! Whether it be online through remote learning or in-person learning we will get through this school year together.


A little bit more about myself... I am married and have two kids. I have a degree in art education and a fine arts degree specializing in sculpture. Today I enjoy practicing all art media and I can’t wait to INVEST in my students by helping them express themselves and explore their artistry! My favorite hobbies include kayaking, travel, visiting art museums, and finding inspiration for my artwork outdoors.

Each of my students is special & unique and I want you to know that I CARE. I can’t wait to meet you all! Here’s to a great school year!

Nutrition Services Weekly Meal Bags for eLearning students


Weekly Meal Bags To place an order for your student, click HERE or visit www.dcsdnutritionservices.org and click on eLearning Meals. Students must be enrolled at participating DCSD schools. Includes 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches for 100% eLearners and your choice of a Lunch only or Breakfast AND Lunch bag for Hybrid learners. FREE for those on the Free and Reduced Meal Program. Price for full pay students on the order form. Pickups are every Monday 1:30-2 p.m. or Tuesdays from 9:30-10 a.m. at your choice of sites. Students do not need to be present for pick up. P

SAC Meeting - Sept. 22

The first SAC meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 PM via Google Hangouts. Feel free to join us virtually if you would like to attend. SAC is looking for another representative to sit on the board. STEM Center for Strength

This center was created to support anyone that was impacted by the events on May 7, 2019. This includes current and former students, parents, and staff from the STEM schools. This also includes any students and staff impacted in any of our schools. This includes caregivers and crisis workers both in our school district and the county, such as law enforcement and EMS. The STEM Center for Strength will be sending out regular newsletters and other communications on upcoming events that are meant to support people in the aftermath of our traumatic event.
