Make Yourself Proud!

Classroom Update

I'm excited to announce that our class has been awarded a TAPAS grant from the Asheville City Schools Foundation, which will help support our social studies as we continue to learn about communities and maps. Local artist, Leslie Rosenberg will join our class in mid November, to build communities out of wood, which we will use to navigate cardinal directions. I'm really excited to bring this project into our classroom and see what the students create!

We are well underway in our fundraising for the Fun Run. Please continue to ask family/friends for donations. Students can register online at www.funrun.com to start raising money to support Claxton and our classroom. Claxton's registration code is 445-132. Today through Sunday we are issuing a special challenge. When you visit funrun.com this weekend, your student has the opportunity to receive a BONUS Prize! If your student gets a $2 Per Lap Pledge or a $60 Flat donation this weekend, then they will receive the bonus prize, the Boosterthon Drop & Pop on Monday! Check out funrun.com this weekend!

Thank you to Clifton Williams and Melissa Cole-Essig among other Claxton parents who joined us yesterday for our Asheville community career day. The students loved hearing about different careers they could work towards in the future.

Eblen Charities helps students in our school community by donating clothing and shoes, school supplies, classroom snacks, and medical needs. You can help by purchasing a pumpkin for $1 to be hung in the lobby. A donation of any amount will help these students in need!

Big Pumpkin Day is coming up on October 30th from 1pm - 2:45pm and classroom volunteers are needed to help make it possible. Here is a link to sign up to donate supplies or your time.

Our Learning Goals

Reading: We will focus on decoding strategies when reading. We will start working on asking questions when we read a book.

Writing: We will begin working on the structure of narrative writing.

Math: We will be working on addition story problems using various addition strategies.

Science: We will be learning about the pumpkin life cycle and the parts of a pumpkin.

Social Studies: We will continue looking at the world on a larger scale using the book "Me on the Map". Students will learn about the differences between our city, state, country, continent, and the world.

A look at last week...

Working our hardest and learning something new every day!
