Message From the Principal
We have our second full week under our belt and things are going well but we do have a few things to address.
Parents if you could have a conversation with your child about keeping their hands to themselves that would be great. Sometimes we think it is funny to smack people on their behind or below the belt and it is not funny or appropriate at all.
Also please make sure you are patient at pick up at the end of the day. Cars can not go around the shuttle bus. While they are loading we are helping kids cross the street to get to their parents parked in the gravel lot. Please make sure you are watching for children as they walk through the gravel. Make sure you talk to your child about looking both ways, not darting out between cars or buses. We want to make sure everyone stays safe.
Connecting with the Counselor
5th Grade
We are almost done with our Escape/Breakout activity! So far, the kids have cracked the code on three puzzles -- we only have one left!
6th, 7th, 8th Grade
Students will complete their Social Emotional Lessons (SEL) in their Advisory classrooms. There are so many benefits to students participating in weekly SEL Lessons. "Research shows direct SEL instruction can create more positive school climates and boost academic achievement, even in a virtual environment. Emotions influence students’ attention, decision making, memory and learning. SEL can also help with student and family engagement. Students are more likely to show up and do their best when they feel connected to their peers, teachers, school counselors and school staff. We have an opportunity and responsibility to keep SEL at the center of our efforts to help students acquire better ways to manage emotions in and out of the classroom "(American School Counseling Association Website).
Each week, I provide a summary of what your student talked about in that week's lesson as well as some discussion questions you can ask to check for their understanding and talk about at home.
This week, students started talking about a Vision Board to set some goals for themselves for the year. Students started to brainstorm some goals for themselves in different areas of their lives. Next week, students will start to create their Vision Board on their iPad. I would encourage you to ask your student about what goals and visions they have for themselves this year!
News from the Nurse
If you received immunizations this summer, remember to provide a copy to the school. If you are now a 7th grade student, an up to date immunization record includes preteen vaccines such as TDAP and the Meningitis vaccination. Please provide documentation of these vaccinations for your 7th grade child if you have not done so. Thank you!
