July 27, 2020
Welcome back for the 2020-2021 school year!
This will be a year unlike any other filled with resilience, unity, strength, creativity, and daring leadership. Our priority is the safety of all students and staff. We have to ensure we are informed and prepared to lead practices that will ensure the safety of everyone. It has been so clear that one person cannot accomplish this alone....it takes all of us working together. We will commit to ensure masks are worn, social distancing is practiced, and we sanitize and wash our hands to protect the well-being of all.
We are also focused on doing all we can to provide an education that ensures racial equity and eliminates the achievement gap between our African-American students and other groups of students. We will start this work through dialogue and discussions around race and equity. We can and we will achieve this together!
As you approach this year, remember that courageous leadership means being willing to acknowledge the difficulty of the moment. It means creating safe places for people to be vulnerable. It means bringing light and hope in the midst of darkness. It means strengthening others through our connections. It means lighting the path forward and pivoting when needed to forge a new path forward.
It is easy to fall victim to feeling helpless in this moment. It is easy to remain in a state of frustration or fear. It is easy to focus on all the things that are not going right. However, we have what it takes to empower ourselves and empower our teams to persevere through this moment of uncertainty. We can meet this moment with a resolve of patience and understanding, creativity and innovation, and most importantly care for one another as we all go through this together. Nothing is impossible when we come together!
Thank you for your patience as we launch plans that evolve as the circumstances change. This will be a year we look back on generations from now and smile at the innovative ways that we stood up in the face of uncertainty with a steadfast commitment to make our world a better place.
You are incredible champions for your staff and students-we look forward to a new, but remarkable year together!
