Lorenzo Walker Technical High School Mission "Purpose" Statement
Juniors Win Annual PowderPuff Game
The week of October 29-November 2nd was Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States.
Each year, we hold our Spirit Week in conjunction with Red Ribbon Week and cap it off with a school-wide pep rally and a game of flag football with the girls playing and the guys cheering them on! Because we don't have sports teams of our own at Lorenzo Walker, we have to be innovative at how we involve our students in physical activities, team-building and becoming involved in our school culture.
Every year, PowderPuff gets bigger and better. Congratulations to all the coaches and students for giving of their time and energy in order to continue this tradition. Thank you for encouraging the students and remaining positive role models throughout the games. The level of sportsmanship and camaraderie was wonderful to see among the spectators, cheerleaders, coaches and players. If you have never been to this annual event, make sure you put it on your calendar for next year.
In the end, it does not matter who wins or loses but that they had the courage to show up and play and/or cheer. And we had the biggest group of students playing this year compared to years past. The 9th graders could have been split up into 3 different teams, they had so much participation. I hope this is a trend that continues because studies show that students who participate in physical activity do better in school, learn teamwork and goal-setting skills. It also promotes psychological well-being, builds self-esteem, reduces stress and anxiety and reduces feelings of depression. However, champions were crowned at the end of the game....
Congratulations to Coach Neil Fehr and the Junior girls for winning the Championship. They played well and beat the Seniors 20-0 in the championship game.

I am extremely proud to be a part of the Lorenzo Walker family!
