GUN CONTROL
What do Trump and Clinton plan to do about gun control?
......................THE TWO SIDES TO GUN CONTROL.......................
Some people believe because of the second amendment they have to right to own guns. Some people believe that any form of gun control impinges on this second amendment right. Advocates of gun ownership often believe they need guns to protect themselves for any variety of reasons, home invasion, terrorism, etc. They argue that owning guns will protect them and make the US a safer place to live. However, the other side of this argument believe arming people makes the world a more dangerous place. Some people understand the right to own guns but believe that there should be stricter gun control laws rather then an outright ban.
WHAT WILL TRUMP DO ABOUT GUN CONTROL?
Trump believes that gun ownership makes the United States a safer place to live. "Well, I'm a big second amendment person." Trump said, "As an example, for the horrible thing that just took place in Oregon had somebody in that room had a gun." Trump is trying to say in his own clumsy way a common argument that says the solution to a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. Many arguments like this one are arguments that mirror a very powerful organization called the NRA. The NRA is a very powerful lobbying organization for gun rights. The NRA has statements like "Guns don't kill people, People kill people". Many republicans, including Trump use these arguments because it makes them popular with gun owners, who will then vote for them. Even some Republications for example Carlos Curbelo wish to enact some sensible gun control to stop suspected terrorists on the FBI no fly list from buying weapons. The Republican leadership does not seem to want to pass any form of gun control legislation even if it seems sensible. People who believe that any form of gun control will affect their 2nd amendment rights will probably be voting for Trump.
WHAT WILL HILLARY DO ABOUT GUN CONTROL?
Clinton believes something has to be done about gun control. Hillary says "I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets". As president, Hillary will expand background checks when buying guns, remove the industry's sweeping legal protection for illegal and irresponsible actions and she will not allow guns to be in the hands of criminals, the serously mentally ill and domestic abusers. The Democrats in congress recently had a sit-in as they tried to convince the republicans to vote to take gun control measures. Hillary does not plan to ban guns overall, but if you think there should be sensible gun control laws then you will probably be voting for Hillary.
What does Gary Johnson plan to do?
Johnson agrees with the standard republican/NRA position, and thinks that gun control laws make the US more dangerous. He believes that guns should be used for protection and that taking away peoples guns will be harmful to the US. So if you don't think Trump will make a good president and if you do not agree with increasing gun control laws, then you should consider voting for Gary Johnson.
What are some organizations thats are trying to fix this issue?
Organizations such as The Brady Campaign and the CSGV are for gun control laws and believe that guns create more violence and make the US more dangerous. The National Rifle Association (NRA) and the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) believe that it is your right as an American citizen to own guns of any kind for any reason and carry them wherever you want. They are against any form of additional gun control including background checks and closing loopholes about private gun sales between individuals.
WE NEED TO END THE VIOLENCE!
No matter what side you are on, most people will agree that something has to be done in order to stop these mass shootings and gun related deaths. One very strong argument from gun rights people is that if their guns were taken away from them then only the bad guys would have guns. However, this is not necessarily true. Japan has a population of about 126 million people. Gun control laws are very strict in Japan. In Japan the weapon laws state "No one shall possess a firearm or firearms or a sword or swords". There are very few exceptions to this law, however in 2008, Japan had only 11 gun related deaths. In Canada, you can still purchase guns but they have very strict gun laws. Canada has a population of about 36 million people. In 2013, they only had 131 gun related deaths. However in the US (which has a population of about 322 million people) guns are easy to get. In 2013 there were 11,208 gun-related homicides. We don't necessarily need to ban guns, but in order to end these mass murders and gun attacks the US needs to enforce stricter gun laws.
