Some good news - NASA might be planning to launch Artemis 2 in November of 2024.
And the asteroid sampling mission, OSIRIS-REx, will be returning to Earth on September 24th of this year. This could provide insight into what is on an asteroid.
Also, the James Webb Space Telescope took a stunning image of a Wolf-Rayet star system about to go supernova. It is 15,000 light years away in the constellation Sagittarius. On this note, farewell.

Tech News
I'm just going to go straight to the topic because I’m lazy to write a intro.
If you have a old 3ds/2ds or Wii U you don’t use anymore, find it and get all purchases you made from the Nintendo E-Shop as the E-Shop for the 3ds/2ds, and Wii U will be shutting down March 27th. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases from the E-Shop BUT if you decide to mod your console, you can do a lot of cool things with it and be able to get any game for free (3ds/2ds people can use h-shop, Wii-U I am not sure about). Modding your 3ds/2ds can get you custom themes, custom apps and firmware, etc. I recommend https://3ds.hacks.guide if you want to get started with modding your device!

Ukraine with Hank
Developments in Ukraine:
Things are heating up in the second-largest country in Europe. The Russian Army has bombarded the cities of Ukraine, desperately hoping for success in the war. But this success has not come. The Ukrainian army has done well fending off the Russian forces, as old Soviet tanks and planes are being proven obsolete. This month, however, comes with tragic news. Peter Reed, an American medic helping out in Ukraine, was killed on February 2nd, whilst evacuating refugees to Poland. He will be remembered. On other news, a mass bombardment of the east is planned by Russian forces. This will, in the Russians' mind, cripple the Ukrainian military. This is not probable. Ukraine is continuing to beg the United States for more advanced and farther-ranged artillery. Biden is denying the weapons to Ukraine, even though the country promises to not attack sites in Russia. And an important milestone in the war has been reached. Biden visited Ukraine in late February, and showed that the United States is with Ukraine. Air raid sirens rang out over Kyiv as Biden and Zalenskyy walked. On February 24th, 2023, the war officially reached one year. Ukraine has held out for an entire year. Let's hope the war is won in Ukraine's favor, and all the death is over.

This month’s topic is Nelson Mandela. Here are some facts you probably didn’t know about him.
· Nelson Mandela was the first black president of South Africa, and the first president to be elected in a fully representative election.
· In school, Nelson Mandela studied to become one of the first black lawyers in South Africa.
· Mandela was imprisoned from 1962-1990 for treason and conspiracy against the government. He was originally sentenced to life in prison but was released early whenever the thing he did became legal again.
· Mandela is known as the father of modern South Africa. He took down the bad government and installed democracy.
· In 2009, the United Nations declared Mandela’s birthday (July 18th) Nelson Mandela International Day. On this day, people are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something good for others, which represents the 67 years of Mandela’s life put towards helping others.

Tech News with Gabriel
One day, Little Timmy was using his phone and his father disappears to go get some milk. He started panicking and threw his phone out of his house, hitting a car, and then landed in a garbage bin that caught on fire! This lead to the said cell phone to break, but it was possible to protect his phone using something called “a case”.
These are daily problems that most experience, and that is why I am here to talk about tech and how you can upgrade and protect yours. I also want to educate you about updates and news related to devices such as your game consoles and phones (+ more tech).
All PS5 owners, if you have your console standing vertically, as soon as possible set it horizontally. You may be asking why? Due to a design flaw by Sony, the liquid metal used to cool the APU can sometimes spill, and become uneven, which impacts (at least) the cooling and causes the APU to overheat, or in nontech people's terms, setting your console vertically can damage and kill it. In total, don’t keep your PS5 vertically.
Xbox users, if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, this section of the newsletter might be helpful for when you want to game on the go. Let’s say one day you’re on a road trip. You want to play on your Xbox or play some Xbox games but of course, you can’t bring an entire Xbox with you in a car. “How will I play my Xbox games!?!“ The solution? Well, this thing called “Cloud Gaming” exists for the purpose of being able to play on the go. If your Xbox is plugged in on sleep mode at home and you have good Wi-Fi on the device you want to use with cloud gaming, you can remotely play on your Xbox by connecting a controller to your phone, going to the Xbox app (it is required), and selecting your console and picking “Remote play on this device.”
“What if I fully shut off my Xbox?!”,
There is a collection of games you can play with cloud gaming that doesn’t require your console to be on as it syncs games with your existing data and can sync your save data to your console the next time you power it on. For ps4/5 users, there is a different app made by PlayStation that allows remote play from the console but not cloud gaming without your console. Hopefully, you might find cloud gaming useful on the go!

Füd Time with Matthew
Welcome to Füd Time with Matthew.
I’m your host Matthew and in this segment, I will rate 3 restaurants every month. If you are wondering why the title says “Füd” I want to be fancy, and it is pronounced “food.” But anyway, just as I said I will be rating restaurants every month so you can hear my opinion.
February’s restaurants will be listed below with my opinion.
McDonalds
McDonalds overall is an excellent restaurant. It has cheap food, their fries are amazing, and their desserts are outstanding. Their breakfast is amazing, and I love their hot cakes and hash browns. It does have some dreadful things like they stopped seasoning their fries, they only sell the Icee's during the summer, and WHY WON’T THEY FIX THE STUPID ICE CREAM MACHINE LIKE WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX IT.
Whataburger
Same as McDonalds, Whataburger is a family-friendly Texas restaurant. If you don’t like Whataburger, you are not a true Texan. Whataburger has amazing food and I really like their burgers and shakes. They also have really good chicken strips.
Chick-fil-a
Chick-fil-a is a S tier restaurant, and the workers cannot let you go without saying “My pleasure”. Their breakfast is the best thing ever and I love their chicken minis. I can't go a day without thinking about the chicken sandwich because it is one of the best things on the menu.

Welcome back gamers, its Mason with your monthly update. Even though this is great news there is some bad news. There are no recent updates, for more popular games at least. Now for the PS4 PS plus games for this month are Evil Dead, OlliOlli World, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and Mafia: Definitive Edition. Mafia is a
very good 10/10 I highly recommend. Now for Nintendo's new releases (a few of these games haven’t been released yet and will come later this year) some of these games being, Hogwarts Legacy, OCTOPATH TRAVELER II, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Minecraft Legends, Fire Emblem Engage, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.
That’s it for this month, but if you have anything you would like to see in Game Time then please figure out how to do that and like always remember gamers to touch grass.

School Board Appreciation Week
This Month is School Board Appreciation month, so if you know anyone such as, Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, Zach Lambert, Alex Hunt, Joy Williams, Jon Welch, Joe Hubenak, Kay Danziger, and Mandi Bronsell, thank them! First, the school board acts as the school district's policy; they are a dedicated group of community leaders who represent a specific area within the boundaries of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. If you know anyone, give them applause because they deserve it.
This Year's Theme is: Forward, together. Many schools have been continuing to deal with challenges over the past years, but the School Board will lead the way. Schools and communities succeed when everyone works together for a brighter future.

The wintery weather in Ukraine is endangering lives and equipment across the country. Power is out across much of Ukraine. To say that is bad is an understatement. Many strikes across the 10 1/2 months of war in many key cities has damaged infrastructure. Power is out in at least half of the second-largest European country. Food resources are scarce, and the city of Kherson, which was recently liberated from Russian rule, has absolutely no access to clean water. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zalenskyy, continues to condemn the attack. He also urges Ukrainians to get out of the weather and of winter war zones. This is happening as the war is progressing. Ukraine is gaining back land, but not fast enough. Another barrage of Russian missiles is expected in the next week or so. Also, more war crimes are being uncovered across the country. From torture pits to underground rooms where people were executed, this situation is becoming worse and worse for Russia. The situation is becoming dire for Ukraine and Russia. Let's all hope the war is won in Ukraine's favor, and all the death is over.

Ukraine with Hank (November 14-18)
In a shocking development, Russians have retreated from the city of Kherson. Kherson has been controlled by Russian forces since the beginning of the war in February. It is heavily damaged, as Ukraine and Russia have both bombed the port town. However, some Russians missed the memo to evacuate. Many Russians are sheltered down in small houses in the city. Ukraine is trying to recover Kherson from the damage caused from the war. But many Ukrainians that were living under Russian rule are rejoicing to be Ukrainian again. Volodymyr Zalenskyy even visited Kherson to celebrate. But a darker side to the war in Kherson is emerging. Multiple torture pits and other war crimes are being discovered in the city. Russia is in deep trouble from this. Also, inflation of the Euro is still rising rapidly. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are suffering from inflation rates as high as 22%. The average in the Eurozone (aka all the countries using the Euro as a primary currency) is an 8.6% inflation rate. Still, the war has damaged infrastructure in Kherson, and it will be hard to recover.
The war is also spreading past the borders. On Tuesday, a missile hit Eastern Poland. The strike killed 2 Poles and damaged a road. The US and NATO called an emergency meeting of the G7. The strike is believed to be an accident, but a similar story played out in Moldova a couple of weeks ago. Also, the Russians are launching a barrage of missiles into Ukrainian cities. The Kyiv town hall was damaged recently, along with many other pieces of infrastructure. The Russian’s goal is to terrorize the Ukrainian population. This is not good for Ukraine’s health or well-being. Let's all hope the war is won in Ukraine's favor, and all the death is over.
Population hits 8 billion
On November 15, the world population hit 8 billion residents. That is a lot of humans. This is a huge step for mankind, but is also accompanied by problems. A lot of food must be grown to sustain a population of 8, then 9, then 10 billion people. The environment is increasingly being destroyed by the constant growth of infrastructure. To say that is bad is an understatement. But yay for humans! There is 8 billion of us now!

Russian troops have allegedly complained to a Russian governor about "enormous losses" in the Donetsk region. These reports have gotten to President Zalenskyy, and he says that the Russians "are finally giving thought to what is happening." Russian Pacific Marine forces have talked to Governor Kozhemyako, the governor of Primorsky Krai in Russia, about astounding losses in the last four days. The message entailed that 300 men were killed in a conflict in Donetsk. This was later confirmed. Also, the war is currently in a stalemate of sorts. Advances have been slow after the massive amounts of territory taken by Ukraine in the last few months. The war has caused many casualties across the front lines in the south and east, and especially in the key Donetsk region. Also, Iran has admitted to supplying Russia with "kamikaze" drones. Ensuing sanctions on Iran from the US and EU are not boding well for the country. Let's all hope the war is won in Ukraine's favor, and all the death is over.

We will head back to the school at 3 pm. If you are planning on attending the event and/or you want to ride home with a parent, I only need a signed note emailed or handed to me prior to the event.
The form for Tweens Read EVENT is now available here (Links to an external site.) and will take you 2 minutes to complete. Please be sure to submit it by 9/9/2022.

Technology Education EXPO
Tech Newbies
I know that technology can be daunting and Canvas can be frustrating, therefore, I have created a time where I would love to help you with any questions you might have regarding Canvas. I will teach you how to navigate classlink, canvas, and how to access digital libraries. Just click on the zoom and add it to your calendar and we will see you on November 16, 2020. Click here for the zoom link.
Tech Tip
There's an App for that...
Novel Effect can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and it is FREE99! You can find over 200 children's books and poems and they are constantly adding new titles to their library. This app plays music and sounds as you are reading aloud a story to really bring your story to life. Visualizing is made simpler as the sounds open up your imagination just a little wider to play that movie in your head. This technology has smart voice recognition that will sync automatically with your reading voice.
This may be the trick to persuade your jags to READ. If you try this out, please send any videos or pictures of you and your jag reading with Novel Effect, let us know what book you read that you loved the most. You can email me at dbishop@lcisd.org.
I cannot wait to hear from you all.
