Colt Corner
Colleyville Middle School
January 28, 2022
Colts,
Can you believe the first month of 2022 is practically over? Time is moving quickly, and all the engaging activities happening all over campus make it feel like the year is flying by. Our teachers and students continue to press on in class to create continued academic growth. Along with the class activities, our Cotillion nights have been going great thanks to our wonderful PTA and the time spent to make the experience the best possible for our 6th and 7th graders that are participating this school year. Our basketball teams continue to perform well, highlighted by our 7th grade girls teams clinching two more District Championships this week. The 7th grade girls athletics program continues to excel at high levels as they remain District Champions in all of the sports played this school year including volleyball, cross country, and now basketball. Our fine arts programs continue to do the daily work needed in order to prepare for their upcoming UIL events, and our directors are working diligently to maximize every minute that they have with our Colts. In turn, our fine arts students are responding well in order to prepare themselves for success.
As a reminder, next Tuesday we will begin our new bell schedule with the start of 1st period beginning at 8:08am. The two minutes added at the beginning of the bell schedule is an adjustment that has been made for all district middle schools. Please be sure to make the minor adjustment to your routine if it affects your Colts drop off time in any way. I hope each of you finds some time to recharge and enjoy the weekend.

Important Information for Interim Testing (Feb. 1 & 3rd)
GCISD-Issued Devices & BYODevices
For the interim assessments next week, it is very important that students bring their GCISD-issued device in order to access the secure testing app and successfully login to take the assessments.
Other Important Information:
- We will have an alternate schedule on February 1st and 3rd.
- Please help us ensure your students' computer has the lastest update required for testing by reminding your student to restart his/her device on the GCISD network (this needs to be done at school).
- Please remind students to come with a charged device and their charger.
- Please help us remind students with oral accommodations to bring their headphones.
- Zero hour students will attend their zero hour classes on Feb. 1st and 3rd as scheduled. On February 3rd, they will be excused from "4th period" (8:08-8:57am) and will take the reading interim once they arrive with everyone else.
Students CHECKING OUT/LEAVING EARLY:
Reminders: Anyone picking up a student must be on the Skyward Family/Emergency List before signing out a student. Have your driver’s license with you as you will be required to provide identification at the outside intercom camera. Your student will be sent outside to you. Parents are asked to wait outside (or in their car) as the Vestibule is not an area for parents to meet their child. The vestibule is designed to be a secured area for safety measures.
Please allow plenty of time as students in Athletics or Lunch may take longer to come to Attendance quickly. Students will not be pulled from class until a parent arrives at school.
Any additional information can be found on the attendance page on the CMS website.
Thank you for working with our staff as we keep the overall safety and academics as the highest priority for our Colts.

STAAR Online
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is transitioning all state assessments to be administered online by the 2022–2023 school year. To support this change, GCISD will be administering all state assessments online this Spring and is encouraging students to visit the practice tests site released by the TEA to prepare for online testing. For upcoming testing, students will be using district issued personal devices.
The online practice tests familiarize students with the general tools, designated supports, and accessibility features that may appear in online tests. In the practice site, there are features that may be turned on and off for students with identified accommodations such as text-to-speech and spelling assistance. Organized by grade level and subject, all 2018, 2019, and 2021 STAAR released tests are also available on the online practice site . Please visit this link for instructions on how to access the practice site.
To view upcoming online STAAR testing windows and dates, please visit our website.
More specific information about student testing days will be coming soon. Please submit a help desk ticket if you are having trouble launching a test.

Students Planning to Take Algebra I or Biology I Prior to 9th Grade
Please read this message if your student is planning to take Algebra I or Biology I while in middle school.
Students who successfully complete a STAAR EOC assessment prior to 9th grade must also take a corresponding subject area SAT (Algebra I only) or ACT (Algebra I and/or Biology I) while in high school. These national assessment results are included in the high school's federal participation requirements, as well as, the high school's state accountability rating calculations.
Currently, the SAT is offered at school with no charge to students once between the spring of the junior year and high school graduation. For students needing the ACT instead, a reimbursement option is planned. The funding is provided by House Bill 3 and the Texas Education Agency.
