4-H Council Nominations!
It’s that time of year again! We’re asking for nominations for the 2021 Thurston County 4-H Council!
We’re asking for 2 adult and 1 youth from each club or at-large nominations!
In 2021 we’re limiting the full council to consist of 5 adults and 4 youth for quorum and commitment purposes.
A term consists of a 2 year commitment. NOMINEES MUST BE 12 4-H AGE IN 2021!!!
If you think you would like to represent and be a voice for the other members of Thurston County 4-H consider taking on this leadership role.
Either talk to your club leader about being a club nominee or simply be an at-large nominee.

Nebraska 4-H Camp Fall Offerings!
Adventure Day Camps with Douglas Sarpy Extension:
October 10, 16, 17 & 31
Open to all youth ages: 6-14
Location: Schramm State Recreation Area. Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm, optional extended evenings.
Nebraska 4-H school year camps provide a wonderful opportunity for youth to get away from it all and spend quality time connecting with nature and the great outdoors while they have days off from school or are on school breaks. We're proud to partner with Douglas-Sarpy County Extension 4-H Youth Development to offer science-based school-year day camps. Through these experiences, youth have the opportunity to explore the natural world at Schramm State Recreation Area. These day camps allow youth to connect with friends while enjoying their natural surroundings. All of our programs follow CDC and ACA recommendation for in-person activities, with hand sanitizer, masks and social distancing. https://4h.unl.edu/camps-centers/school-year-camps

Shipping within the state of Nebraska is included in the cost of the kit. For an additional $5.00, we'll even ship to surrounding states, including Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota.

2020 4-H Foundation Trail Ride:
This year’s 4-H Foundation Trail Ride will be held on October 2-4, 2020. Join us for an enjoyable, guided ride through the scenic Nebraska National Forest near Halsey. Enjoy delicious meals, family activities, and great entertainment. All proceeds support the Nebraska 4-H camp programs. To register, mail the completed registration form to the Nebraska 4-H Foundation, , PO Box 4500, Lincoln, NE 68504. The registration fee is $50 per adult and $25 per youth if postmarked before September 20. After September 20 the registration fee is $60 per adult and $35 per youth. Join us for just the Saturday night Trail Supper, silent auction and entertainment for $20 (included in Trail Ride registration). All events are subject to the local health department’s Directed Health Measures and may be cancelled. If the event must be cancelled we will issue full refunds to registrants. No refunds will be made if participant is unable to attend.

Martha & Don Romeo Scholarship
The Nebraska Association of Fair Managers will award a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H male and a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H female who are graduating seniors in the State of Nebraska and who plan to continue with post high school education. The scholarship will be awarded at the annual NAFM convention in January.
The selection of the scholarship recipients will be made by the NAFM Scholarship Committee whose members will consider the following:
- Each applicant must have exhibited his/her 4-H projects in a County Fair or at the State Fair within the last four years.
- Each applicant must hold a 2.5 high school grade point average (based on a 4.0 system). Each applicant must also maintain a 2.5 grade point average for the first semester in college and carry at least 12 credit hours.
- Each applicant must agree to apply the scholarship funds for tuition or fees at a two or four year college or its equivalent, to be judged by the committee.
- Each applicant must have demonstrated support for his/her school and community.
- Each applicant must exhibit during the application process a desire to achieve the goals of which he/she is capable.
- Financial need will not be considered in the selection process.
- One male and/or female finalist will be selected by the 4-H award committee in each local Extension Office.
- Recipients are requested to personally accept the award at the Nebraska Fair Managers Convention.
This Scholarship is awarded during the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Convention Banquet, which will be held in Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday, January 23, 2021. Winners will be notified by January 4, 2021. Return completed application to your local County Extension Office by November 30, 2020.

Thurston County 4-H Council Senior Scholarship
Applicant Criteria:
- Applicant must be a current High School Senior.
- Applicant must currently be an enrolled member of the Thurston County 4-H Program. And have been enrolled in 4-H for at least the past two years.
- Applicant must have completed and turned in their 4-H Career Portfolio/Achievement Application for at least the past two years.
- Application must be completed and returned to get proper signatures to the Club Leader by April 1st of the current calendar year. Club Leaders will then turn all collected applications to Nebraska Extension in Thurston County. After submission, applications will not be returned.
Scholarship Information:
- One $150 will be awarded to all applicants who meet the criteria.
- Scholarship will be awarded after receiving written notification of scholarship recipient’s second semester enrollment. For those students enlisting with the military, notification of basic training completion will be the equivalent.
- Scholarship monies will be sent directly to the scholarship winner.
