What is the war of 1812 ?
The war of 1812 is a war between United States and the United Kingdom. The Great Britain didn't what to surrender and they have also wanted the Americans to join their navy, but the American people didn't want to go to their navy so they started fighting.
President James Madison wanted to protect US freedom and declare war on Britain. The Americans also wanted to stop the British from helping the Native Americans. On June 18, 1812 the US declare war on Britain which lasted 2 and a half years.
There lots of people dies in the war because of helping there country to fight. At the beginning of the war, most of the fighting took place near Canada. However, the US lost most of their battles. One positive was when a US ship sunk a British ship giving the US something to cheer for. In August 1814 the British march in to Washington and burn down the president's house.

At the end of the war do major changes has occurred. America fears of great Britain ended after France and Britain stop fighting. The US sign a peace treaty called the treaty of Ghent that gave the Canadian and Native American their borders back. While the US did not win the war they did build a sense of pride standing up to the British.
