Roller Skating!!
We will be starting our Roller Skating unit on March 19th! We will be skating with our 2nd - 5th grade students this year, and need to get their permission slips returned ASAP. Your child received an ORANGE permission slip in their Tuesday folders, and we would like to have those returned by MARCH 5th. Cost this year to rent the skates and participate this year is $5 per student. Each student will be skating for 5 days during their Physical Education classes. IF you would like to sponsor another child that information is also listed on the permission form. Please read the permission slip, sign it, and have your child return it ASAP to their Physical Education Teacher. Thank you for allowing your child to participate in this great life long activity!

Music Notes...
Dear Parents of Kindergarten, Second and Fourth Grade Students,
The month of March is “Music In Our Schools Month.” To celebrate, students in grades K, 2 and 4 will be presenting “Informances” in their music classes during the week of March 19 - 23.
An “Informance” is an in class performance and demonstration of skills learned presented in a performance type structure. Students are excited to show you the musical skills they are learning which include reading and playing rhythms, movement and dances and sharing some songs.
“Informances” will take place during music classes in the music room and will be an opportunity for parents to watch your child participate and perform for 30 to 40 minutes. Please look at the schedule below to find the date and time of your child’s presentation.
We look forward to seeing you in our music classroom!

You can help raise money for your school!
It’s easy to support your school with items you already use in your home or receipts from stores you already patronize!
Feel free to send any of the following to school with your student.
There are drawers in the hallway next to the lost and found to drop any of them off.
Each box top through Box Tops for Education is worth 10 cents. If each student turned in just 20 box tops during the year the school would receive around $800. Watch for Bonus Tops on participating products or as a coupon from your store purchase. Go to www.boxtops4education.com to sign up, enter sweepstakes and to see a list of the participating products. Box tops do expire so be sure to turn them in on time!
Through Kwik Trip’s Milk Moola program, each milk/juice cap and bag top is worth 5 cents. Please remember to rinse the caps and bag tops before turning them in.
Save your Hy-Vee receipts from both Mankato locations and they will donate $1 for every $150 spent through the Hy-Vee Kash 4 Kids program. The receipts must be dated during the current school year (Sept. 2017- May 2018) to qualify. Every little bit will add-up!
We have set up our PTO as an organization you can support through AmazonSmile.
Once you select us as an organization to support, we will receive 0.5% of the price of your eligible smile.amazon.com purchases.

Washington Elementary PTO Meeting Minutes 1-8-2018
Meeting Attendees: Diane Winegar, Hilary Kent, Stacie Smith, Jennifer Brunz, Casey Neitzel, Holly Evans, Eileen Campbell, Shane Baier, Amy Cain, Marnie Moule, Tracy Opie, Cherise Barker, Mary Wagner, Heidi Burns, Shane and Liz Drahota
Meeting Minutes Approved: Marnie M. (1), Amy C. (2)
Principal Report: Shane gave an update about the different jobs assigned to the students around the school. He wants to communicate better what the jobs consist of and is considering doing a “job orientation” when new students take over each time. There may also be a 2nd round of sign up for school jobs to let students try something else or sign up this time.
A “Playground Hopes and Dreams” committee will be formed with PTO members, students and staff to work on what new equipment the school needs best. Cherise B., Hilary K. and Diane W. have volunteered to be the PTO reps for this and Shane will work on setting up a meeting time. We would also like to pursue the Mankato Clinic Foundation grant to help with this project. The deadline for spring disbursement is March 1st.
Holly E. Gave an update on the 7 Habits. There was recently a group of families that met and did some activities that utilized the habits to show how they work in everyday life.
Teacher Report: The Climb to Feed Kids event went well. $1030.00 was raised by donations, a jeans day and pot luck for the teachers.
Request for Funding: Title One asked for geometry kits to be used on Math Night for $228. Casey moved we approved this request and Heidi seconded. All approved.
Treasures Report: The Chipotle fundraiser brought in $532.30. Yay! We did spend $5 to help promote it on the Facebook page. The K Foundation deposit was $451.55 ($273. 62 was from Give to the Max Day). Expense of $200 for the Reading Rocks DJ. Also purchased plates for the upcoming conferences and the picnic.
Committee Reports: HyVee receipts have brought in $32 so far. Box Tops check was for $325.50. The point total available in the Labels for Education Program is 17,542. These need to be used up by the end of May 2018. Jen will send the merchandise catalogue to Shane and Ms. Wolf to see what the school could use.
Cherise is going to look in to 1000 Degrees Pizza to see what a fundraiser night there would consist of. Looking around April 12th or so to schedule that. Cherise has also agreed to be our “social media specialist”. Thank you!
Marnie is finalizing the incentives for the walkathon. She will have a survey sent out to the students with some choices. She is still looking for that special someone to take over for next year. ☺
Events: Family Fun Night at the Children’s Museum on February 9th from 6-8 pm. A light snack will be provided. Come with your family and have fun! March 15th is the Math Night and PTO Book Fair. This coincides with the science fair, so the book fair will be set up in the music room again the night before.
Wrap Up: Next PTO meeting is February 12th at 6:30 pm. A Walkathon planning meeting will be held prior to that at 5:30 pm. Motion to adjourn by Eileen C. seconded by Amy C.
