UCSD#1'S DISTRICT GOALS 2017-2018
In the Pathway to Excellence strategic plan, you can find the district’s four goals. It is important that we continually check our progress and re-energize our commitment throughout the school year.
Accountability (Achievement): All accountability indicators on the State accountability system for all content areas will be in the meet or exceeds categories by 2018.
District Goal (Instruction): By 2022 all Uinta County School District Number One schools will be certified as high reliability schools in levels 1, 2, & 3. Emphasis on indicators 1.4, 2.4, and 3.1 for the 2017-18 school year.
Attendance: Decrease by 5% the number of chronically absent (10 absences per year) students and the number of severe chronically absent (> 20 absence per year) by 5% for the 2017-18 school year.
Behavior: Reduce the number of tier 1, 2, & 3 student referrals by 5% in each tier from the 2016-17 school year.
Today, I would like to focus on Achievement goal #1. The accountability goal is directly linked to the State of Wyoming’s accountability system. The system rates each school in the state as falling within one of four performance levels: “Not Meeting Expectations,” “Partially Meeting Expectations,” “Meeting Expectations,” or “Exceeding Expectations.” The four levels are based on four indicators (K-8) and six indicators (9-12). The indicators are: “Achievement,” “Growth,” “Equity,” and “Participation Rate.” Evanston High School is also measured by two additional indicators: “Graduation Rate” and “Additional Readiness.”
The State’s accountability system places all Wyoming schools on a level playing field allowing UCSD #1 to compare our instructional program to other schools and districts in the state. Even though the metrics used to calculate the performance levels are complicated, we are confident that by meeting or exceeding expectations on the performance levels, we will be one step closer to our vision and mission of providing the “highest quality of education for ALL students.”
The 2016-17 accountability scores indicate that five of eight of UCSD #1’s schools are “Meeting Expectations,” two of eight are “Partially Meeting Expectations,” and one of eight (Horizon High School) is not being rated as the metrics are still being designed. These ratings are an annual event based on the State’s test and our district’s test results. We have an additional challenge for the 2017-18 school year as the state’s test is new for 2018 (WY-TOPP). We are confident that our staff’s experience, hard work, and dedication to our students will be reflected in positive results for the 2018 accountability scores and our Achievement goal will be reached.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Cindy Titensor
- What made you decide to become a Lead Custodian? "Because I could never be a secretary!!! Ha! I became a custodian years ago because of a black horse. It's a long story...bottom line, I can walk, walk and walk!"
- How many years have you worked in UCSD#1? 32 years
- What is your favorite thing about your job? "My favorite thing about my job is the people, staff, kids and custodians I work with. I figure I've seen over 11,000 kids educated at EMS-I really like going to "extra mile" for everyone, and smile!"
- What is your favorite thing to do in your off time? "Spring, summer, and fall I spend a lot of time in Star Valley. Born and raised on Crow Creek in the valley I love, going and spending time with the kids, grand-kids who come to the valley also. Outdoor cooking, campfires, sunrise and sun sets are some of my favorite things."
Kathryn Mancewicz
Kathryn completed her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of New Mexico where she pursued a specialization in evaluating and providing therapy to bilingual and Spanish-speaking students. Prior to moving to New Mexico, Kathryn lived in Minnesota where she was born and raised. Being a lover of the outdoors, the move out west to work in Evanston has been nothing short of perfect. She currently lives in Morgan, Utah with her husband, Joel, and (hopefully) future therapy dog, Luna. The trio enjoys spending time hiking, skiing, camping, and rock climbing in the mountains. Kathryn has been enjoying her first year as a Speech-Language Pathologist at North Evanston Elementary and is thankful for the opportunities and support she has received in Evanston. She is excited to continue to grow as a professional and member of the Uinta County School District #1 community.
