CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THE POETS, COACHES, AND WINNERS OF THE 11TH ANNUAL CCS DISTRICT POETRY SLAM!!! Six high schools (Centennial, CAHS, Eastmoor Academy, Fort Hayes, South, and Whetstone) and five middle schools (CCPSG, Dominion, Indianola, Ridgeview, Yorktown) competed Saturday, April 13th at the 11th Annual CCS Poetry Slam. The schools and individual poets listed below received medals and trophies for their efforts. In addition, the top, individual high school poet also received a $350 scholarship.

The Buckeyes are the only state reader’s choice award in which students get to nominate the titles as well as vote on the final winners. This allows the Buckeyes to be truly a student-chosen award in all aspects. Award Timeline
March 15 – March 10 of the following year: Students nominate their favorite books, published within the last two years, and not part of a series that has already won the award. Past winners are listed on the website. Nominations are open year-round, except for a 5-day transition period in March to close one year’s nomination period and open the next. THE ONLY ADULTS WHO MAY SUBMIT NOMINATIONS ARE TEACHERS AND LIBRARIANS WHO ARE REPRESENTING A GROUP OF STUDENTS FROM THEIR SCHOOL OR LIBRARY.
*April: The top five nominated books for each grade range are posted to the website.
May-August: Students read the nominated books, if they haven’t already, and encourage their friends to read them too. Students also nominate NEW books as they read over the summer.
September 1 to November 10: Students vote for their favorites of the five nominees, and can also still nominate new books for the next year’s award.
After December 1: The winners are announced!

SCHOOLS REIMAGINED REBOOT, APRIL 30TH
If your school is ready to break free of traditional learning, register now for the Schools Reimagined Reboot Leadership Conference on April 30, where you can reimagine teaching and learning in a creative, meaningful way. Thurber House Adult Writing Workshops and Master Classes are designed for adults of all levels of writing experience. Adult Writing Workshops are two-hour stand-alone classes on a variety of topics.They take place on Mondays from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Thurber Center, 91 Jefferson Ave., beginning on May 8th. THE PAR POETRY CHALLENGE: A NEW POETRY CONTEST FOR CCS STUDENTS
Competing in the PAR Poetry Challenge
First designate a building teacher who will contact Melissa Charles in the PAR office to set up a poetry pick-up time, prior to May 10th.
Second, ask students to compose poems on the topic of teacher appreciation and give those poems to their school's designated building teacher. Be sure to include student name, contact number, poem subject, teacher name, and school name.
Winning the PAR Poetry Challenge
Three winners will be chosen from each of these groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. All winners will receive an award and prize. Winners will be asked to read their poem in front of an audience of teachers at the New Educator Celebration on May 21st.
DEBATE CAMP OFFERED AS PART OF CAPITAL UNIVERSITY'S CREATIVE ARTS CAMPS

SPECIFICS FOR THE DEBATE CAMP
The Ludlum Forum, home of Capital University debate, welcomes students to the Capital University campus for its summer workshop. Students with no experience OR prior experience are welcome and sessions will be tailored to experience levels. This five-day experience will give students essential skills for success in competitive high school debate, and for success in the classroom and future professional life. An experienced and dedicated staff under the direction of Dr. Stephen Koch will provide immersion in practical debate skills as well as lay a foundation for understanding the dynamics, ethics and philosophy of public advocacy. Key processes, including policy research, case construction, brief construction, rebuttals, cross examination, evidence analysis and critical decision-making will be explained, coached and practiced.

There will not be a high school debate division at the Spring Debate Tournament on April 18th at Capital University. The Middle School Tournament will still take place.
