Conference Recap

We would like to thank the number of families who attended conferences this week. Parents who have been through conferences in prior years at Franklin know that we changed the format. This was due in large part to a couple reasons: 1) change in team structure and teachers teaching multiple subjects/grades, 2) allow parents the freedom to speak to as many teachers as they wish rather than visiting with only one or two. We would appreciate your feedback as we look into our conferences in the future.

Those parents that attended conferences received a copy of their child's 1st Trimester mid-terms. Students that did not have anyone present were given a copy of their mid-terms on Friday to take home. Please ask your child to see their mid-terms. These grades are also accessible through Powerschoool:

1st Trimester ends November 21.

Dance Marathon

Franklin will be hosting its ninth dance marathon on Friday, November 7th from 3:00-5:00 P.M. in the lower gym. It is open to ALL Franklin students and admission is only $5.00. For those new to Franklin, this is not your average middle school dance. No awkward slow dances, no waiting to be asked to dance, and no talent necessary! All students are expected to dance as fast as they can and as much as they can (with appropriate breaks for snacks of course!)

For those unfamiliar with dance marathon as a charity fundraiser, this event is affiliated with the University of Iowa’s Dance Marathon and the Children’s Miracle Network. Funds raised help support pediatric cancer patients at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Each year we are blessed to have numerous college students affiliated with Dance Marathon join us. In fact, some years we have had some of our very own Franklin alumni return to dance with us as U of I student dancers. It’s good fun for a good cause. We hope you can join us this year too!

The last two years our dance was made even more special by the presence of Jack Hoeger, a pediatric cancer survivor, and his family. Jack is now in eighth grade, so please take this opportunity to come celebrate with him! And if you want to learn more about Jack and his fight against cancer, you can check out Jack’s own you tube video “Get to Know Jack” by Livestrong Jack. (See the video below)

Dance Marathon T-shirts Deadline is Tuesday, October 21! Pick up forms and drop off in Main Office. Don't get left out!

BRAVO!! School Play -"Turn the Page"

This week our students put on their first drama production of the year. On Tuesday students gave a "teaser" to the entire student body. For our students involved, I'm sure this was one of the more nerve-racking experiences they've had. It's tough to perform in front of your peers, but the cast and crew did a magnificent job. The entire play debuted Thursday night and again on Friday. A special thanks goes out to Mary Sullivan & Jerry Davenport as well as the number of parent volunteers who put in a lot of hours getting students ready and situated for a great performance.

If students are interested in being part of future productions we encourage them to listen for further announcements.

Approaching Sports' Seasons

Our fall sports have just ended and we'll now begin or next seasons of boy's basketball and girl's swimming. We encourage students to sign-up and participate. Students will need to make sure to have an updated physical and a sign concussion form before they're allowed to practice.

Girls' swimming has started, but it's not too early to join. Boys' basketball begins on Monday, October 20.

Picture Re-Take Day

Lifetouch will be here taking school make-up pictures on Tuesday, October 21st at 1:30 PM. If students did not get their picture taken on Back to School Night and would like to order pictures, order forms are available in the Main Office for students to pick up. They should bring their order forms and payment with them on Tuesday, October 21st. This will be your final chance to order school pictures for this year.

If students ordered a package on Back to School Night and need them redone, please bring that packet along on make-up day.

Dress for the Weather

A reminder to students, as the weather gets cooler you will want to make sure you are prepared to wait outside. Warmer clothes would include hats and gloves. As you enter the building remember to remove your hats and hoods so you do not have to be reminded by a staff member. We want to make sure you are doing your PARRT and following the Franklin Building Expectations.

Virtual Backpack

Have you checked out the district's Virtual Backpack. There's a lot of cool stuff. Be sure to take a look. Follow the link:
