Keeping Cooper Safe!
Cooper Families,
This summer, the school district received a grant from the state which enhanced the safety of our
buildings. Enhancements included new monitors and additional radio improvements at ou schools along
with other structural elements to increase safety at schools. Later this fall we will be attending
trainings on threat assessments and mental health to support our students.
Here at Cooper we are training students and staff through Fire Drills, Tornado Drills and Dangerous
Intruders Drills. Whether we perform a Fire Drill or Dangerous Intruder Drill, we will be having
conversations with students about keeping our school safe. We will be working with local law
enforcement including the Superior Police Department and the Superior Fire Department. On October
5th, SFD will be here as part of Fire Prevention Week talking with all our students! Additionally,
Officer Kendall will be supporting our drills on Dangerous Intruders.
When Cooper does have a school safety drill, we will inform parents that same day so that the
conversation can continue at home. Included is an article to help guide that conversation with your
student.
Our first Fire Drill occured today and teachers spoke with students about school safety. If you
have any questions about safety at Cooper, please don’t hesitate to call or email. I will be happy
to answer any questions. Remember that you too are part of keeping Cooper safe. If you see
something, say something. Together we will make this a great year!
