Superintendent Search Update
We have a new superintendent who will start July 1, 2021. The board narrowed a candidate pool of 23 applicants, to 6 semi finalists, and then 3 finalists. The board read feedback on the candidates from community members, families, and staff before selecting Dr. Deborah Rumbaugh. At a Special Board Meeting this morning, a formal announcement was made. We wish Dr. Shumate all the best in her retirement and welcome Dr. Rumbaugh to the district.
COVID Related News
Covid continues to impact our students, staff, and schools. Due to contact tracing and close contacts, we have recently had to quarantine full classrooms. Health district authorities also clarified quarantine requirements: “People who have had a positive Covid test in the past 90 days or who are vaccinated are not required to quarantine. All others must follow the 14 day quarantine protocol.”
COVID Vaccines
COVID 19 Vaccines (Pfizer) are now authorized for any person age 12 and over. Camano Island Fire and Rescue will be holding a pop up vaccine clinic this Saturday at Terry’s Corner (848 Sunrise Blvd, Camano Island). It will be from 10:00am-3:00pm with walk-ins welcome. Camano Fire has the Pfizer “two” shot vaccine for people 12 and over and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for adults who want the “one” shot option.
Camano Fire is asking that people pre-register, if possible, so they have some idea of the number of people they should expect.

2021-22 School Year
Families have been asking what the district has planned for the 2021-22 school year. The district is planning for full days, five days a week for all schools PreK through grade 12, provided we are able to adhere to the requirements of public health authorities.
We will continue to follow the public health guidance on distancing, masks, and other safety measures.
Families who choose not to send their students for in-person school due to family health issues will be able to select a remote learning option.
