Falcon Focus
September 17, 2021
From Mr. Biscan
It's hard to believe that our homecoming events and celebrations begin next week. It shows us how time continues to move forward and how we're fully immersed in the 21-22 school year. While there have been challenges, we are enjoying being together as a school community. My hope is that we can keep moving forward safely and collaboratively so our students can active participants in their high school experience. With that being stated, I need to remind everyone that when you are in the building, please wear a face-covering that covers your mouth and nose. If we can work together to make sure this happens on a daily basis, we will have a great school year.
Wednesday marked the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month. It's a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the influence and contributions of Hispanic Americans who have inspired and achieved. To learn more about National Hispanic Heritage Month, please click here.
This edition of the Falcon Focus contains important information and some ways that you can assist us in making our school an emotionally and physically safe environment for all.
Thank you for your partnership and have a wonderful weekend.
Student Deliveries
As in past years, students are not permitted to receive deliveries at school in order to maintain a safe and secure building. This includes food deliveries, as well as items forgotten at home (homework, game/practice clothes and equipment, etc.) and delivered by family members. We appreciate your help in keeping our buildings safe and secure.
From the Desk of Dr. Pavlini, Assistant Principal of Student Services
School Vandalism
This school year, we’ve experienced a significant increase in vandalism to our boys’ bathrooms along with theft of other school items, such as pencil sharpeners and soap dispensers. This is a costly and disruptive trend. Sadly, damage is being encouraged and highlighted through various social media “challenges” that are trending at schools nationwide and at Wheaton North. Because so many students use the bathrooms throughout the day, it is quite difficult to narrow down the incidents to specific times and - in turn - to specific students. We have increased our supervision of these areas, as well as our checks for vandalism, and we will continue to investigate these incidents. However, we also need your help.
Please talk with your student about how we all need to work together to put an end to this type of damage to our school property.
- If your student witnesses vandalism in progress or sees vandalism after the fact, ask your student to make note of the location and time and to report this information to their dean (listed below) as soon as possible.
- If your student comes across social media evidence of vandalism at WN, ask your student to share that evidence with our team (listed below).
- If your student has participated in this damage, we want to work together with you to help them take responsibility for their actions and to make restitution for the damage they’ve caused. Please contact the Assistant Principal for Student Services so that we can work together to develop this sense of responsibility without involving the police.
As our investigations uncover additional evidence and additional involved students, the consequences will be significant, and we will be involving the police regarding vandalism to school property.
Thank you in advance for speaking with your student and for your partnership.
