Jan. 14 - 17 & Jan. 21 - 24

Tickets and Info: http://cap.ucla.edu/calendar/details/agua_furiosa

Ana Maria Alvarez (our dance teacher for the past 10 years) and her company CONTRA-TIEMPO Urban Latin Dance Theater are premiering a new work called Agua Furiosa at UCLA's Kaufman Hall - next door to our school - January 14 - 17 & Jan 21 - 24. Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Oya, the Afro-Cuban deity of wind and storms, Agua Furiosa challenges audiences to confront harsh realities about race in our country in a visually stunning and thought-provoking evening of dance performance. Presented in collaboration with UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. Please come and bring the whole family! And share this info with your networks and anyone you think might be interested!

Girl Scouts Are Raising Vegetables, Studying Water Systems and More!

The Girls Scouts created and have been maintaining the Community Garden in the Redwood Forest area. Special thanks to Ryan Gates, landscape architect, for sharing her expertise with the girls. They plan to expand by planting a vegetable garden in the EC yard. When the vegetables have grown, they plan on having a farmers market at the end of the year.

To further their understanding of the water system, the girls met with Lisette Gold, civil engineer at the Santa Monica Water Treatment Center. Melody Grubbs of Santa Monica Baykeeper taught the girls about our creek. And they built watershed clay models.

This month, we plan to visit professor and UCLA Lab School parent Andrea Ghez at the UCLA Planetarium. We also plan on visiting the UCLA Engineering department and JPL in Pasadena.

Girl Scout Cookie sales begin on January 24. Please support our troop by purchasing cookies!

If you have a special talent or profession to share with the girls, please let us know!
