From the Principal
This past Friday, I was able to spend some time with our K-5th grade students during specials time. The Special's team and I held our first and second quarter Celebrations of Learning. This was a time where we celebrated our students for making good grades, demonstrating great behavior, participating in school clubs, and demonstrating traits of a growth mind set. If you are not familiar with growth set, please click on the link below my message to learn about it. It is something that is relatively new compared when we were in school.
The basic message of a growth mindset is that intelligence can be developed with hard work, perseverance, learning strategies, and with help from others. The opposite is a fixed mindset. Fixed mindset is the belief that a person is born with a level of intelligence. This change in thinking describes why so many people are able to overcome challenges and achieve great success. Some famous examples are Oprah Winfrey, Bruno Mars, Michael Jordan, JK Rowling, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, and Thomas Edison. All of these people have similar stories of challenges and with grit and determination went on to achieve their goals and dreams.
Our teachers were asked to recommend Panthers who were great examples of the growth mindset. Although it was hard for them to just select a couple this time around, they submitted Panthers who have made lots of growth this year, went above and beyond to help others, or set personal goals and surpassed them. I have to tell you the reaction of our Panthers cheering on their peers when their name appeared on the screen really warmed our hearts. We know there are a lot more examples out there, and I am very excited about the 3rd quarter celebration in April.
Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Martinez
