School Newsletter Term 2, Week 2
Friday 5 May 2023
Kia ora koutou katoa,
We have had a great Week 2 at school with a lot of powerful learning happening in all classrooms.
On Thursday we were thrilled to host our Term 2 Pōwhiri to welcome our new children, parents/caregivers, and staff to West End School. Thank you to all who were able to make it along and participate in this important part of WES life. Our children did a fantastic job with their different roles in our pōwhiri.
Please remember that next Tuesday (9/5/23) we are hosting our first Vibe Assembly of Term 2 (starting at 9am) followed by an open morning where parents/caregivers can visit your child’s classroom and partner in the learning. The focus for both the vibe and the open morning will be our school values of Manākitanga, Mana Aotūroa, Whakamana, and Kotahitanga. We will share how our values are a key part of our way of being at West End School. We would love to see as many of our West End Whānau attend as possible. See you there!
As always, I appreciate all members of West End School taking care on the way to and from our school. Please ensure that you are parking in the correct spaces, adhering to road markings, and using our crossing correctly. I appreciate the care taken to show our tamariki safe and appropriate behaviours near and on our roads and crossings.
It has been wonderful to see our Kickstart Breakfast club back up and running this week. If you are interested in supporting this special part of our school. Please email kgobie@westend.school.nz.
I wish all of our West End Whānau a safe and happy weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday.
Ngā mihi nui,

Term 2 Sports at West End School
Hockey starts this Sunday, please check the school app for teams and game times.
Basketball begins next Thursday at CET Arena, please keep updated on the app for game details.
It was great to have Kelly Sports in this week teaching a group of 30 students the game of Ki O Rahi. These children look to participate in a tournament towards the end of the term.
Dance - Both Junior and Senior Dance started back this week. All of the students showed great enthusiasm and are using lots of whakamana learning all of the routines.
School Cross Country - All students are starting to train for school cross country. A date for this will be confirmed in the next fortnight so please keep an eye out on the app and school notices. For School Cross Country training to be done successfully, students need to come in appropriate clothing and footwear.
Our new report format for Term 2
In Term 2 and 4, we will no longer be sending home a paper copy of a school report. You will have access to a new report format on Seesaw which will include information about your child’s progress and achievement, and a comment from the teacher for reading, writing, maths, as well as a general comment relating to attitude, behaviour and showing school values. There will also be an example of your child’s work to show the progress they have made in that area. Below is an example of one of our reporting pages. You will have access to school reports in Week 9 of next term.

Audition sheets for speaking parts were given out to Te Wao Nui o Tāne and Puawaitanga students this week. Below is information about where and when auditions will take place next week. There is a range of different speaking roles available for those students who are successful in the auditions, and is great that so many of our tamariki are keen to give it a go. Please encourage and help them practice for next week - those who get a speaking part will be notified early in Week 4. We have all started learning the songs and the excitement is building.
If you are able to help out in any way (with costumes, set/prop design etc) please contact Dan Minchin and he will let you know more details!
