CMS News & Notes September 2022
Fall Sports Pep Assembly
The fall sports pep assembly was hosted on Tuesday, September 13th. All student athletes were recognized, cheer leaders got the student section energized with a few cheers, the pep band performed the national anthem and school fight song. Students and teachers played a few friendly matches of volleyball and tug a war to claim bragging rights. In the end, the football team outlasted the teachers in tug- a-war but teachers quickly rebounded to win the volleyball match. Fun was had by everyone! Good luck to our fall sports athletes!

Leader In Me T-Shirt Order
This years message is "If it doesn't CHALLENGE YOU, It doesn't CHANGE YOU." Our goal is to challenge our students thinking each and everyday and push them to make changes in their habits to become better learners. Our Friday morning Jaytime has been spent beginning to build leadership binders that students will update throughout the school year. Each section of the binder will highlight their successes and challenges. We encourage everyone to purchase a 22-23 Leader In Me T-Shirt that will be worn on throughout the school year. All orders are due by Sept. 25th.
Tutoring is Now Available!
Below is the list of teachers that are available for tutoring. Please reach out the individual teacher to set up tutoring sessions for your child. We will also be providing Saturday/Monday sessions through the quarter. More information on these dates will be shared soon.
Students may sign up to attend Lunch & Learn (12:00-12:40) on a daily basis. This time will provide them quiet space to work on assignments while eating lunch. Teachers are available during this time to assist students with their work.

Athletic Spotlight - Cross Country
The Junior High Cross County team is coached by Mr. Massey and Mr. Morris. Runners participated in their first meet of the year in Monett last week. The boys Junior High race was led by our own "Cinderella-story" Braeden Casey. Braeden announced his presence in the cross-country scene by placing 15th in a field of 123 runners! Rounding out the race were great performances by David Ogan (42), Austin Ginter (52), and Hudson Lubinski (87). The girls Junior High race featured the dynamic duo of Bella Browning and Brooklyn Flood. Bella walked away with a medal in her first-ever run placing 21st in a field of 96 runners. Brooklynn Flood finished 45th with a strong finish.

Missing Assignments & Retake/Redo Policy
MISSING ASSIGNMENTS
All assignments not turned in on time will be recorded as an Incomplete ("I") in the grade book. This will be calculated as a zero in the student's overall grade.
Formative: Due no later than the beginning of class the following Tuesday. Formative assessments will not be accepted after this deadline.
Summative: Retake/redo assessments are due no later than the end of the school day 14 calendar days (2 weeks) from the original due date.
*If the final due date is a day that school is not in session (inclement weather, breaks, etc.), it will extend to the next day school is in session.
REDO/RETAKE
Redo’s/Retakes will be allowed with the following guidelines:
The student must, at the teacher’s discretion, make a legitimate first effort on the assignment in order to be eligible for a retake/redo.
Students must complete a CMS Retake Contract
The student must receive additional instruction and/or complete additional practice to demonstrate progress toward mastery before completing the retake/redo. This can be done by attending before/after school tutoring or during a lunch and learn.
If a student chooses not to make a first attempt or refuses to complete the additional work required prior to the retake/redo, the teacher does not have to allow the student the opportunity to retake/redo.
