Congratulations to Luisa Penaflor!

Creative Writing Junior Luisa Penaflor is the 2019 Winner of the Nancy Thorpe Poetry Prize sponsored by Hollins University for her poem, "This Is Not A Heritage Poem." As the winning poet, Luisa will receive a $350 cash prize, publication in Cargoes, Hollins’ award-winning student literary magazine, a renewable scholarship up to $5,000 provided through the Creative Talent Award in Creative Writing applicable in the event that she enrolls at Hollins University, and free tuition and housing for the University’s Hollins summer creative writing program (for rising 9-12th grade students).

Concert Opportunity for Students, Families, and the GVL Community

On Monday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m., the Joe Davidian Trio will hold a special performance at the Fine Arts Center! All students and their families are encouraged to attend. The Joe Davidian Trio (“JD3”) is an American jazz trio that has performed internationally as a group for nearly 20 years. The JD3 performs a mix of original works and jazz standards. They have been touring internationally since 2000, presenting concerts and giving masterclasses on improvisation and ensemble playing. In 2008, JD3 released the critically acclaimed album “Silent Fire,” featuring each trio members’ compositions. JD3 has since released two live albums, Live at the Jazz Cave: Volumes One and Two, which document a six-year span of performances at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Music Club of Greenville - Scholarship for Grade 12 Students

The Music Club of Greenville will once again offer a scholarship to instrumentalists and vocalists who will be pursuing a degree in:

  • Music Performance
  • Music Education
  • Musical Theatre
