Happy New Year!
Mission: To create a community of learners empowered to collaborate and compete in a rapidly changing world.
2018 is Bound to be a Banner Year!
As a reminder, we will begin this semester with a new learning management system, Empower Learning. We are excited about the features offered and early parent feedback has been positive. As with any new tech tool, we realize that we will be learning while implementing and appreciate your patience and understanding as we learn and adjust. We will continue to communicate via eNews as new information and orientation materials are developed in response to our experience with this great tool. For communication already prepared on our school webpage, please visit https://www.pisd.edu/Page/14825 to review our Grading Vision and Standards Based Reporting information.
On Thursday, Feb. 1st, please join me and members of our PTSA Board for a Principal's Brown Bag lunch from 12:30-1:30, no RSVP required. Bring your lunch for a casual gathering to discuss what we've learned about Empower in our first few weeks of the semester as well as to provide feedback and discuss parent needs as we proceed.
PAHS Teacher of the Year - Cameron Davis!
Ms. Davis was raised in Michigan and moved to Texas after completing her graduate degree in English Literature from the University of Florida. Her desire to share her love for reading and writing led her to a career in teaching. She worked in the Enrollment Services Department of Southern Methodist University before beginning her teaching career at Williams High School. Ms. Davis joined the PAHS faculty in its opening year, and her leadership and contributions have been a tremendous gift to our school and the success of our learners. Her educational philosophy focuses on creating an atmosphere of respect, open communication and inquiry. Outside of the classroom, Cameron enjoys reading, writing, scrapbooking, photography and has recently taken up gardening.
Back to School Reminders:
Parking:
1. All learner vehicles are required to have a parking permit displayed in our parking lot. 2. Parking permits may be obtained at our front desk from Ms. Chappelear.
3. Safe driving is a MUST. Slow down and watch for others. Harley Davidson Financial, our neighbor, has reported learners accessing their back drive to make speedy exits from school during lunch and after school.
4. Use the crosswalks when walking to and from your vehicle.
5. Don't have anything in your vehicle that you can't have at school - this includes prescription medication.
Morning Arrival:
1. Learners are to be in their assigned learning space at 9:20. Tardies will result in an assignment to early morning Restorative time.
2. No food or drink, except water, is permitted outside of the cafeteria during the school day. Learners may not take food and drink to learning spaces.
3. Learners are expected to follow dress code at all times. Spaghetti straps, bare shoulders or midriffs, and ripped jeans/pants are not permitted.
Lunch:
1. 1st and 2nd year learners are NOT permitted to leave campus during lunch unless signed out by a parent or guardian.
2. 4th Years must be in good academic, behavioral, and attendance standing to access Senior Release on Wednesdays and Fridays.
3. 3rd and 4th Years may be assigned a tutorial or detention that removes off campus lunch privileges.
4. Tutorials are offered twice weekly in most courses. If a facilitator provides you a pass and an invitation to attend, it is important for you to attend. Remember that your facilitators are wanting to provide you additional instruction or an opportunity to assess your learning progress during that time.
5. You may eat in one of three lunch zones: Cafeteria, LS 1-3, outside at lunch tables. You are expected to keep your lunch zones clean and to put trash and trays away. Lunch debris left outside may result in outside lunch privileges being removed. Now that we have completed the bulk of construction, you will notice furniture placement has changed.
Clubs and Satellite:
1. Learners are expected to arrive to your afternoon club or satellite on time.
2. Attendance is taken and failure to attend or tardies will be reported.
3. Any request to change clubs at the semester are evaluated on a case by case basis by Ms. Ojeda. Availability is determined by staffing and space constraints.
As a reminder, all learners are held to the standards of our Essential 5 Learner Expectations and Learner Commitments as pictured below.
