Engage and Inspire: It's what we signed up for!

I know I have mentioned the movie MLTS and Ted Dintersmith. I do have a bit of a common interest with the guy and I do believe in a lot of what he is saying. I watched one of his interviews on Cspan this week and what he said is spot on when he talks about the recent research for his upcoming book. He said....

"What's transformational is when teachers are trusted to do what they entered the profession to do, and that is to engage and inspire kids. To challenge kids in things that kids are actually interested in. When you connect school to the world around them"

I don't know about you. I didn't want to be a teacher to teach a kid about how to use prepositions, or how fast they can complete a math fact worksheet, and how to tell me that a certain 3d shape has 8 vertices.

I want kids to find themselves, chase a dream, and love learning about things that they find a passion for. That's what school should be. Somewhere along the way, we lost our way. We lost is because of a bunch of people that used to be florists, businessmen, and tradesmen became elected to make decisions that really they have no business making. We are the experts in what is best for kids! Everyone thinks they know schools because everyone went to school. Those people don't and do not live our lifestyle. We are the people working every day to make a better life for our kids and our community because we chose to make it our life's devotion. Let's get real, real. We know the way the system is set up, what we are told teach and how to teach it is failing a large portion of our kids. So why don't we do something about it? Fear? Ease? Confusion? We can change it, and we will! We can come together here at CN and make the changes needed to do what is best for our kids. Watch Ted's interview below. We need to change not just here, but everywhere to help our kids. I see you doing some new and exciting things. Let just see what our school could be!
