2023 Newsletter - Week 10, Term 2
Greenmeadows School, 30th June, Newsletter #10: 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
Not only has this been the last week of Term 2, it's also been a chance to celebrate Support Staff Week! We are incredibly lucky to have such capable support staff here at Greenmeadows School. Our office staff, classroom assistants, cleaners and grounds staff all work incredibly hard to keep our school running smoothly for the benefit of your children. If you should be popping into the school on our last day, please do make sure you acknowledge these very special people.
Thank you for your attendance at Parent Teacher interviews earlier this week. We are proud of the fact that we get close to 100% attendance at these evenings and I'm sure that you and the teachers exchanged valuable information about the progress your child has made at the halfway point of the year. Our teachers work hard to ensure that the time spent with you is personalised and meaningful for you.
It's has been a rather wet end to the term and I'm hopeful that now the daylight hours are gradually increasing that perhaps we might see less rain next term. Looking ahead to Term 3, there are a couple of early important dates to be aware of:
- Monday 17 July - School starts for Term 3
- Wednesday 19 July - Matariki celebrations (see below)
- Monday 24 July - Teacher Only Day (children do not attend school)
I wish you well for the break ahead, make sure you spend time with the people that matter to you. If you are lucky enough to be going somewhere, then travel safely. See you next term.
Ka kite anō,
Darren Holloway
Acting Principal
WELCOME TO GREENMEADOWS SCHOOL
We have had three new students start with us since the last newsletter - a very warm welcome to Jedun & Vidun Gunarathna and Lokan Jeffares.
Our roll at present is 441
WALKATHON
It's been an even more incredible few days since then as the sponsorship money has started to roll in. The PTA ladies are still counting but to date, we've raised around $25,000.
Our main prize winners will be announced in assembly on today.
MATARIKI
Our Matariki event has been through a few small changes over the last couple of years. This year, we intend to start our celebrations in the hall, so kindly ask that you head along there from 5:30 pm on the night. There will be a couple of activities based in the hall before we head out for our short hīkoi.
After the hīkoi, food will be available to purchase, including marshamallows to roast over one of the fires! You can also expect to be entertained by our incredible kapa haka rōpu at some stage in the evening.
As this event takes place in the early evening when it's dark, we would appreciate your assistance in keeping children off the playground.
ŌTĀTARA KĀHUI AKO NEWS
Kia ora whānau
Taha tinana is the physical dimension of Te Whare Tapa Whā. It is about how our body feels and how we care for it. To nourish our body and to support others with taha tinana, here are some activities to try out:
Mindful eating by using your senses
Make healthy snacks together to share
Talk about the importance of sleep
Opt for water over sugary drinks
Balance screen time
Garden together - plant some vegetables that turn into your healthy snacks
Have a whānau activity of the week e.g. go for a walk or a bike ride, take turns at choosing music and have a dance party…
If we’re caring for each area of the whare, our whare remains strong!
Ngā mihi,
Hauora Team
