Ms. Odom's Classes McKinney High School 2015-16
Weeks 3/4-18/16
Please check your student's grades frequently and encourage them to make sure they've turned in their assignments on time. I typically leave formative assignments open for 10 days. I normally give several days to work on assignments and they are all posted onto the Content page for the unit we're studying. Once the formatives have been open for so long, I don't reopen and formatives are not eligible for retake. Once I post a summative grade, students have five days to resubmit for a max 80.

Fashion Marketing
We are learning about design, styling, trends and elements and principles of designs. We're researching current trends and identifying elements and principles of design and applying them to styling decisions.
I'm available for tutorials before school any day but Tuesday or after school on any day. Students must obtain a pass to attend any tutorial and those are available in my classroom.
Money Matters
Please remind your student to retake a summative scored below 80. I share an individualized tutorial with them to correct via their MISD Gmail account. They need to complete a request to retake letting me know when they plan on attending their tutorial and retake.
We've begun our Virtual Business Personal Finance Simulation! This is always a fun project. Students virtually (as an avatar) move out on their own, rent an apartment, furnish it, get a job, continue their education, pay bills, feed themselves, maintain their bank account, use credit, invest for retirement, and hopefully, become wealthy! Along the way, they may be fired, robbed, have an appendicitis, die (from not feeding themselves)--or experience all kinds of other challenges that virtual life, and sometimes even real life, brings! The goal is to achieve a $3,000,000 net worth by the end of the capstone project. It's a fun, realistic project that gives students a taste of being in the 'real world'!
We've discussed time management skills, stress, nutrition, goal setting, and exercise and how time management contributes to success! We are also learning budgeting and saving strategies and how to find a job (comparing salary, benefits, and resumes). This next week, we'll be exploring how to find an apartment, consumer rights and landlord rights and basic consumer credit when buying a car.
Entrepreneurship
We finished our marketing analysis and marketing plan for our business. We identified marketing strategies, the 4 P's, methods of market research and how to segment our market. We researched our competition, identified pricing strategies, and are developing some marketing materials such as business cards, letterhead, website, social media, advertising, and sales aids.
If you have questions, please don't hesitate to let me know.
