MMA Monday Montessori Moments
February 5, 2018
A message from our Director, Rene Baker
Teacher Professional Learning
Professional learning for teachers is very important to MMA and we devote a healthy portion of our budget to make this investment in our staff. This year MMA awarded scholarships to:
- 10 individuals to attend Montessori Assistant Training with several full-day sessions throughout the year hosted at MMA
- 14 individuals to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training in January
- 4 individuals to attend the Utah Montessori Conference in Salt Lake City in February (6 more teachers also attended on their own)
- 7 Junior High teachers to continue their training at the Montessori Secondary Teacher Education Program in Cincinnati in February
- 4 individuals to attend Montessori Educational Programs International Conference in South Carolina in February
- 10 individuals to attend American Montessori Society Conference in Denver in March
A Sorenson Foundation Grant was awarded to 6 of our teachers to attend the annual Utah Science Teachers Association in February. In January, 6 teachers attended the Weber State University's Arts Integration Conference. In March, 9 individuals are attending the Utah Middle Level Conference. Our teachers also attend professional learning on their own and several teachers are currently engaged in graduate work.
In addition to attending conferences, our staff are also chosen to present at state and national level conferences. I am very proud of the growth mindset possessed by our staff and their commitment to their own professional learning. This commitment translates into better teaching and learning experiences for your children.

Recruiting MAPA Vice President / President
If you don't know what MAPA is... it is our school's PTA program. The Fall Festival, Gala, book fairs, teacher appreciation, classroom safety kits, box tops (and more!) all happen because of MAPA. We want these wonderful events and opportunities to continue to happen for our school and students, so keep your eyes and ears open for someone who would do a great job!

Gala Donations Needed!
Plans for our annual Gala are underway! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and 100% of the proceeds benefit the students of MMA. Past year's proceeds have purchased computers, playground and PE equipment, classroom grants, and so much more! Every year MAPA asks each classroom to donate a basket for our silent auction. If you have a connection to items that would benefit any of the baskets listed regardless of your student's class, please consider donating. Watch for a request from your students room parent for more details. If you don’t see your child’s class on this list, please contact the teacher and possibly offer to help create a basket for the Gala. As always, any items donated go toward your service hours.

Wanted: Parents interested in helping with fundraising for 2018-2019
We are in need of a Chair and Co-chair to organize our fundraising for the 2018-2019 school year. Committee members are also welcome! Funds raised go towards all grade levels. We have streamlined things quite a bit so that there are only 4 major fundraising events throughout the year instead of one a month, and we have had an incredible community response in donations to these events. The skeleton is pretty well in place- we just need parents to take it and run! If you are interested please contact rbaker@mariamontessoriacademy.org by Feb.1. We would like to meet with everyone as soon as possible so that dates can be set for next year's events and assignments can be given on things that need to be started on to give the committee a head start for next year. If you have questions, please contact Jenna Beers at (801)695-5864.
Update on Track it Forward
We hope you all are enjoying the track it forward program. All events whether it is school wide or for the class room will be through track it forward from now on. There is a way to categorize events by teacher, school wide or both together:

( if you have not signed up please do so by going here https://www.trackitforward.com/site/mapa
2. Click on event sign ups
3. Click on filter by category (the little blue writing on the sample pictured)
4. You can then select what categories you want to see the calendar for. For example if you want to see only Ms. Joy’s sign ups click on Ms. Joy. If you want to see just Ms. Joy’s and the school wide events click on both Ms. Joy and school wide. You can do as many as you want.
5. If you do not see your teachers name on the category selection yet, be patient. They have not yet created an event on the track it forward calendar yet. But there next event will be on there. So keep a watch out:)
